Job Title: Quality Inspector

Job Description

The Quality Inspector ensures that incoming, in-process, and final production parts meet drawing specifications and internal quality standards. This role focuses on inspecting finished firearms from both in-house production and outside vendors, accurately documenting findings, and supporting overall quality initiatives by cross-training and assisting wherever quality needs arise.

Responsibilities

  • Inspect incoming, in-process, and final production parts to verify conformance with engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Inspect firearms that are manufactured, assembled, or repaired in the manufacturing area or by outside vendors to ensure they meet company quality standards.
  • Identify, document, and communicate any mistakes, defects, or problems associated with the items being inspected.
  • Maintain accurate and complete records of all inspections, measurements, and findings.
  • Prepare and submit clear, detailed reports to the Quality Manager regarding quality issues and inspection results.
  • Utilize standard test and measurement equipment such as calipers, micrometers, height stands, optical comparators, Rockwell testers, CMM, and Keyence systems during inspection activities.
  • Perform visual inspections and final inspections to verify overall quality, fit, and finish of parts and assemblies.
  • Conduct full layouts of dimensional features to validate compliance with geometric dimensioning and tolerancing requirements.
  • Use engineering drawings and blueprints to interpret dimensions, tolerances, and inspection criteria.
  • Apply problem-solving skills to help identify root causes and support solutions to issues discovered during inspections.
  • Use Excel, Word, and Outlook to record data, prepare reports, and communicate inspection results.
  • Follow directions, manage priorities, and support cross-training efforts to assist in areas where quality needs are highest.

Essential Skills

  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.
  • Proficiency with standard measurement tools including calipers, micrometers, height stands, and optical comparators.
  • Hands-on experience using calipers and micrometers in a quality control or quality inspection environment.
  • Knowledge and practical understanding of Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerances (GD&T).
  • Experience performing visual inspections, quality checks, and final inspections on mechanical components or assemblies.
  • General mechanical aptitude and the ability to understand how parts and assemblies function.
  • Strong problem-solving skills to support resolution of issues identified during inspections.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook for documentation and reporting.
  • Strong understanding of trigonometry and mathematics as they apply to dimensional inspection.
  • Ability to perform full dimensional layouts of parts and features.
  • Capability to follow directions accurately and prioritize tasks based on production and quality needs.
  • Ability to interact effectively and professionally with a variety of people across the organization.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

  • Experience with CMM equipment and software, including Calypso/Zeiss, is preferred.
  • Experience using Keyence measurement systems is preferred.
  • Experience working with ERP systems is preferred.
  • Exp in quality control, quality assurance, or quality inspection in a manufacturing environment.
  • Familiarity with Rockwell hardness testers and related test equipment.
  • Comfort working with firearms or precision mechanical products in a controlled environment.

Work Environment
