This role is part of Alcon's IT Engineering function, a team focused on improving quality, processes, products, packaging and materials across our business to help deliver brilliant outcomes.
The Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) Engineer ensures MES solutions effectively support production operations, maintain data integrity, and comply with GxP, FDA, and ISO requirements while driving operational efficiency and system reliability at our Manufacturing Facility in Johns Creek, GA. Specifics include:
Design, implementation, support, and continuous improvement of Manufacturing Execution Systems (MES) within a regulated medical device manufacturing environment. The engineer will work cross-functionally with Manufacturing, Quality, IT, SCADA, and SAP teams to deliver scalable, compliant, and high-performing MES solutions.
Key Responsibilities
1. MES Implementation & Configuration
  • Design, configure, and deploy MES solutions aligned with manufacturing processes
  • Translate business and production requirements into MES system configurations
  • Support system integrations with SCADA, ERP (e.g., SAP), and equipment systems

2. Production Support & Troubleshooting
  • Provide front-line and escalation support for MES-related production issues
  • Perform root cause analysis and implement corrective actions
  • Ensure timely resolution of system issues to minimize production impact
  • The ability to work on-call as needed

3. Validation & Compliance (GxP / CSA)
  • Support validation lifecycle activities (URS, IQ/OQ/PQ, RTM, validation reports)
  • Ensure MES compliance with FDA, GxP, and ISO 13485 requirements
  • Maintain audit-ready documentation and support inspections

4. Continuous Improvement
  • Identify and implement system enhancements to improve efficiency and usability
  • Analyze MES data and trends to support operational decisions
  • Participate in MES upgrades, releases, and optimization initiatives

5. Documentation & SOP Support
  • Develop and maintain SOPs, work instructions, and technical documentation
  • Support change control processes
  • Ensure proper documentation for system configurations and workflows

6. Training & Cross-Functional Collaboration
  • Train production users and stakeholders on MES functionality
  • Collaborate with Operations, Quality, IT, and Automation teams
  • Support change management and user adoption initiatives

WHAT YOU'LL BRING TO ALCON:
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent years of directly related experience (or high school +8 yrs; Assoc.+4 yrs)
  • The ability to fluently read, write, understand and communicate in English
  • Location: Onsite
  • Travel Requirements: Up to 10%

  • Experience with MS Planner, Kneat, Teams Center, Simens Op Center, Pas-X
  • Validation experience
