Basic Job Functions:
Altenloh, Brinck & Co. US, Inc. manufactures and distributes engineered fasteners under the SPAX• brand for the construction market, TRUFAST• for the commercial roofing industry and TRUFASTWalls• for exterior building envelopes and facades.
The Process Engineer - Packaging Operations is responsible for improving the performance of ABC US's packaging lines-from small retail packs to large-format bucket packaging. This role focuses on driving employee safety, throughput, waste reduction, labor efficiency, and optimizing packaging processes across the operation.
The Process Engineer serves as the technical leader for packaging workflow, equipment performance, automation upgrades, and standardization. They partner closely with production, engineering, maintenance, quality, and vendors to deliver sustainable gains in output, cost, and reliability.

Essential Responsibilities:
  1. Packaging Process Optimization
    1. Work closely with operations team
    2. Analyze packaging line performance, identify bottlenecks, and implement improvements to increase throughput and reduce costs.
    3. Develop and maintain standard work, line balancing, changeover reduction, and ergonomic improvements.
    4. Drive waste reduction initiatives related to materials, labor, downtime, scrap and rework.
    5. Apply Lean and Six Sigma tools to eliminate inefficiencies and strengthen process capabilities
  2. Equipment & Automation
    1. Ensure safe operator interaction with equipment and automation processes
    2. Lead automation and equipment improvement projects, including vendor selection, design reviews, installation, commissioning, and ROI validation.
    3. Establish and maintain equipment specifications, acceptance criteria, and documentation for packaging machinery.
    4. Support maintenance teams in troubleshooting chronic equipment issues and building preventative maintenance strategies.
  3. Continuous Improvement & Data
    1. Conduct structured root-cause analysis (5-Why, Fishbone, DMAIC) to resolve operational issues.
    2. Partner with operators and team leads to create sustainable improvements and drive adoption of new processes.
  4. Training and Documentation
    1. Develop standard work, job aids, troubleshooting guides, and training materials.
    2. Train operators and leads on new processes, methods, and equipment.
    3. Support onboarding and skill-building for the packaging teams.

Position Requirements
Experience:
  • 3+ years in manufacturing, process engineering, or packaging operations

Education:
  • Bachelor's degree in Manufacturing Engineering, Industrial Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related field

Required Skills/Competencies:
  • Working knowledge of Lean and Six Sigma principles; Green or Black Belt preferred
  • Experience with automation, equipment integration, and process improvement
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving capability with a hands-on approach
  • Mechanical aptitude
  • Proficiency with a 3D CAD package (prefer SolidWorks) and Microsoft Office (Excel)
  • Project management experience with capital or automation projects
  • Strong verbal and written communication, along with organizational skills and ability to multi-task
  • Must be able to work as a team and contribute to team goals and expectations
