Job description

Job Purpose Statement: 

The primary function of this position is for the employee to lead a team to operate manufacturing equipment to produce products to the required specification at the expected rate of throughput. In addition, the employee will ensure equipment and materials are available for production, material inventory is maintained, and the area assigned runs efficiently. 

Summary of Responsibility: 

  • Operate heavy manufacturing equipment to produce materials to specification requirements 

  • Learn and follow standard work for all areas as assigned 

  • Evaluate products through visual and dimensional inspection techniques to ensure conformance to tolerance and specifications and address any quality concerns found. 

  • Organize, load and move in process materials and finished products as required to maintain expected efficiencies. 

  • Recognize when routine adjustments are necessary and identify errors at the earliest possible stage to minimize production rework 

  • Detect and report faulty operation, defective, and/or unusual material or equipment conditions. Work with support departments to resolve the issue identified. 

  • Abide by all safety and quality specifications  

  • Operate powered industrial vehicles 

  • Check computer for production schedule and requirements for run(s) 

  • Set-up the machine according to specifications. 

  • Responsible for cleaning and some maintenance of the machine. 

  • Enter information into MRP system as required 

  • Maintain a clean and safe work area 

  • Perform additional tasks as assigned 

Education, Experience and Skills Required:  

  • High School diploma or GED required   

  • Prefer 2 years in a manufacturing/distribution operation  

  • Ability to work with cross functional teams to address issues related to production or quality  

  • Critical thinking skills to evaluate complex and changing situations leading to the recommendation and implementation of a course of action   

  • Able to train quickly through on the job experience with a hands on approach  

  • Verbal and written communication skills to report performance to management  

  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment while meeting production and quality goals  

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a valid forklift or equipment license as needed or required  

  • Must read, write and communicate in English 

Ergonomic & Physical Requirements:  

  •  Must be able to meet the Ergonomic as well as the Physical Base Score for this position.  

  • Standing or Walking up to 90% of the day 

  • Lift / Carry 25lb constantly, up to 100lb occasionally 

  • Push / Pull 50lb constantly, up to 150lb occasionally 

  • Grasp 75lb  

  • Pinch 15lb  

  • Lift bulky objects 

  • Any lifting over 70 lbs. must be completed with assistance i.e. mechanical or individual.  

  • Full range of motion required:  Cervical, Shoulders, Elbow, Wrist, Fingers, Hands, Truck Twist, and Feet.  

  • Ability to wear PPE as required
