The Position:

The Payne and Dolan South Manufacturing Area Manager is a key leadership role responsible for overseeing assigned manufacturing operations within the Walbec Group. This position reports to the Manufacturing Director and provides day-to-day leadership for asphalt plants, aggregate, and related manufacturing operations within the assigned area.

This leadership position works closely with the Manufacturing Director and partners with other manufacturing area managers, construction teams, technical services, safety, finance, human resources, and other support departments to ensure safe, efficient, compliant, and profitable manufacturing operations.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Keep safety as a core value and an integral component of the culture throughout the assigned manufacturing area.
  • Lead assigned manufacturing operations, which include aggregate sites, crushing and washing operations, asphalt plant operations.
  • Provide direct leadership, coaching, and accountability for manufacturing managers, supervisors, project coordinators, foremen, and team members responsible for daily operations.
  • Monitor safety, production, quality, cost, staffing, equipment utilization, inventory, and operational performance to meet business objectives.
  • Assist the Manufacturing Director with sales projections, production planning, budgets, capital needs, and financial forecasts for the assigned area.
  • Ensure local, regional, state, and federal safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements are understood, followed, and documented.
  • Ensure product specifications, quality standards, and ethical business practices are consistently followed throughout the assigned area.
  • Build and maintain professional relationships with key suppliers, producers, equipment dealers, subcontractors, customers, and industry partners.
  • Identify opportunities to improve safety, productivity, efficiency, cost control, employee development, and customer service.
  • Build and maintain successful internal relationships with Manufacturing, Construction, Technical Services, Safety, HR, Purchasing, IT, Legal, Finance, and Shops

Qualifications:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication, conflict management, interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Extensive Knowledge of asphalt mix designs, asphalt production, aggregate production, crushing/washing operations, and quality control practices
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing production planning, budgeting, forecasting, and cost control.
  • Proven ability to lead managers, supervisors, and field teams across multiple locations.
  • Working knowledge of safety, environmental, DOT, MSHA/OSHA, and regulatory requirements.
  • Ability to analyze operational performance and implement continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Strong decision-making skills with the ability to balance safety, quality, production, customer needs, and profitability

Requirements:

  • 7 + years of leadership experience in asphalt plant management, aggregate site management, and personnel management or equivalent
  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering or a related field
