Job description

NOV Nisku Manufacturing currently have opening for you to join our dynamic team as an CNC Machinist. The ideal candidate must have knowledge of threading and will demonstrate strong machining skills, attention to detail, and the ability to contribute to operational efficiency and overall manufacturing performance.  This shift is for evening.

The placement is on a SL-603 Mori machine. Operators can be cross trained across all machines.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Read blueprints, diagrams, measurement tools and schematic drawings to determine work procedures.
  • Perform precise measuring to ensure components are machined to the specific tolerances and surface finishes.
  • Set up and operate CNC machines to maximize the use of materials and equipment.
  • Operate and handle materials and tools in a safe manner.
  • Report any environmental and health & safety issues that arise.
  • Assist with the training of other employees.
  • Ensure that the work area is kept clean and appropriate safety equipment is worn at all times.
  • Perform Preventative maintenance on equipment
  • Other duties assigned

Education & Experience:

  • Up to 1year experience on setup and operation of CNC Lathes and or Mills
  • Mori / Okuma / DMG Mori / Mazak / Weingartner experience preferred.
  • Mill-turns, live tooling, 3 axis lathes, 5 axis mills.
  • Insert selection, tooling recommendations and selection.
  • G-Code, Siemens / Heidenhain / OS300 controls.
  • A combination of formal higher trade/educational training and/or several years of progressive and practical CNC machining experience.
  • Able to carry out your own setups, perform first off inspections and make program changes/modifications to optimize processes and achieve product quality requirements.
  • Perform daily and frequent interval PM activities on equipment to ensure the machines are running at its optimum performance.
  • Extensive experience of operating two machines simultaneously in a lean manufacturing cell arrangement
  • Excellent mathematical and numerical comprehension. Coupled with good abilities to use an extensive range of inspection/measurement equipment.
  • Experience of machining small batches of a wide variety of larger precision components within tight tolerances from engineered performance metals; steels, stainless, titanium etc.

HSE:

  • Able to work in shop environment (noise, fumes, standing) and lifting unassisted 35 lb.
  • Position is deemed safety sensitive and will require passing of a pre-employment physical and Drug & Alcohol test.
