Job description

Founded in 1989, Advanced Geosciences, Inc. is a privately owned manufacturer of geophysical instrumentation located in northwest Austin/Cedar Park. Many of our employees have been with the company for over two decades, reflecting our commitment to long-term relationships and stability. We are looking for an experienced CPA with significant manufacturing accounting experience to manage the accounting function for our company and its related entities, including our wholly owned European subsidiary and a related rental company.

This is an in-person, hands‑on position with a well‑established small manufacturing company. You will perform full‑cycle accounting, maintain accurate books, prepare the year‑end financial statements, complete accounting‑related projects, and serve as the company's go‑to resource for manufacturing accounting.

The ideal candidate brings the depth of experience to work independently, exercise sound professional judgment, and serve as the primary accounting resource for company leadership. This position offers a high degree of independence and the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the company's financial operations. This position reports directly to the CFO.

Responsibilities
  • Perform full‑cycle accounting, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and credit card reconciliations.
  • Manage multi‑state sales and use tax compliance, including oversight of third‑party tax automation.
  • Manage the general ledger, including account reconciliations, journal entries, balance sheet analysis, and month‑end close.
  • Ensure accounting records are accurate, complete, and well organized.
  • Maintain accurate financial records in QuickBooks Desktop.
  • Review and reconcile manufacturing inventory between Fishbowl and QuickBooks, including raw materials, work‑in‑process, and finished goods.
  • Prepare year‑end financial statements and supporting documents for the company's outside CPA firm.
  • Coordinate the annual R&D tax credit process with ADP.
  • Conduct thorough financial analysis, forecasting, budgeting, and variance analysis to support strategic planning.
  • Identify accounting issues, recommend solutions, and improve accounting processes where appropriate.
  • Serve as the primary accounting contact for customers, vendors, and other outside professionals as needed.
  • Ensure compliance with GAAP and applicable accounting and tax regulations.
  • Complete miscellaneous accounting functions as necessary.
  • Implement and maintain internal controls.
Qualifications
  • Active CPA license required.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting required.
  • Significant accounting experience in a manufacturing environment required.
  • Strong understanding of manufacturing accounting and inventory accounting.
  • Experience with month‑end and year‑end close.
  • Experience preparing financial statements and supporting schedules.
  • Experience with manufacturing ERP systems is required. Experience with Fishbowl and QuickBooks Desktop is a plus.
  • Spanish speaker a plus.
