LAYC/MMYC's mission is to empower a diverse population of youth to achieve a successful transition to adulthood, through multicultural, comprehensive, and innovative programs that address youths' social, academic, and career needs. To achieve that mission, LAYC/MMYC provides services and opportunities to approximately 5,000 individuals annually to support academic achievement, promote healthy behaviors, and guide youth toward successful adulthood. LAYC/MMYC also conducts advocacy and public policy work to broaden opportunities for youth.
Job Description
Reporting to the LAYC Chief Operations Officer (COO), the LAYC/MMYC Montgomery County Managing Director will play a significant leadership role by overseeing all LAYC/MMYC Montgomery County programs and play a role in the management of the organization as a whole. This includes a portfolio of approximately $2.5 million, 10 programs, 15-20 funding sources, 20 staff and numerous partnerships with government, businesses and community-based organizations. The Managing Director will provide leadership and day-to-day management for all LAYC/MMYC programs in Montgomery County, working to ensure excellent outcomes for youth and their families.
Qualifications
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Leadership
โ€ข Contribute to the achievement of LAYC's strategic goals and objectives as well as the vision and management for LAYC/MMYC Montgomery County;
โ€ข Provide effective and inspiring leadership to the LAYC/MMYC Montgomery County managers and staff;
โ€ข Lead LAYC/MMYC Montgomery County staff in the achievement of programmatic and organizational goals;
โ€ข Work closely with COO, grants and development teams to enhance, expand or design new programs as needs and opportunities emerge.
โ€ข Represent LAYC/MMYC Montgomery County on committees, coalitions, and other working groups relevant to issues impacting youth;
โ€ข Advocate and engage with Montgomery County leaders and other stakeholders to drive policy changes to better serve young people.
Data
โ€ข Interpret and use data on an ongoing basis to improve LAYC/MMYC Montgomery County-based programs;
โ€ข Evaluate the need for new programs and recommend appropriate time to discontinue programs no longer beneficial to the population served.
Budget, Compliance and Development
โ€ข Prepare and submit an annual operational budget to the CSO, COO, and CFO for review and approval, ensure staff manage effectively within this budget, and report accurately on progress made and challenges encountered;
โ€ข Ensure managers effectively monitor and enforce compliance with various funder requirements;
โ€ข Communicate with funders and contract monitors to make budget modifications reflective of changes and needs of programs;
External Relationships
โ€ข Manage and cultivate relationships with local government officials, funders and community partners regarding program needs, budgets, compliance, and effectiveness;
โ€ข Partner with the CSO, COO and CEO to represent LAYC with local external constituency groups, including community, governmental, and private organizations.
Team Development/Leadership
โ€ข Cultivate relationships with all staff to promote programmatic, departmental and organization culture based in Positive Youth Development (PYD);
โ€ข Establish goals for and monitor performance of managers;
โ€ข Conduct annual performance appraisals, and recommend salary adjustments;
โ€ข Ensure staff receive timely and appropriate professional development;
โ€ข Mentor and develop managers and staff using a supportive and collaborative approach;
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
โ€ข B.A. degree mandatory, Master's preferred;
โ€ข Minimum 5 years experience in a nonprofit management role;
โ€ข Experience working directly with people from diverse racial, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds.

โ€ข Outstanding management skills; ability to influence and engage direct and indirect reports and peers;
โ€ข Must be able to establish relationships and form strong partnerships, including building and maintaining collaborative working relationships with highly diverse stakeholders;
โ€ข Excellent written and verbal communication skills;
โ€ข Excellent organizational and problem-solving skills, ability to think strategically to achieve goals;
โ€ข Strong project management and leadership skills, ability to prioritize tasks, efficiently manage timelines, and effectively execute projects with limited supervision and according to established deadlines;
โ€ข Knowledge of community and local resources.
โ€ข Flexible schedule, including occasional evenings and weekends.
โ€ข Complete criminal and child abuse/neglect clearances.
โ€ข Flexible, energetic, positive individual with commitment to youth development in a high quality, respectful environment.
