Job description

Job Description Job Description Department: Manufacturing Reports To: Engineering Manager Shift: Full-Time (Onsite) Core Machinery: WARDJet CNC Waterjet & XYZ CNC Router TablesRole Overview: The CNC Programmer and Operator is a dual-focus operator responsible for programming, setting up, and operating the shop's high-pressure WARDJet waterjet cutting systems and XYZ 3-axis CNC router tables. This hybrid role demands an advanced understanding of CAD/CAM software to generate specialized toolpaths, manage material yields, and execute precise cuts across a vast profile of materials ranging from soft wood and plastics to ultra-hard steels and alloys. Core Programming & CAM Responsibilities: WARDJet Software Suite: Use WARDCAM software or specialized software like VCarve to import DXF/DWG files, program nested layouts, and configure custom bevel and countersink strategies.

XYZ Router Programming: Generate efficient 3-axis toolpaths utilizing industry-standard CAM software, incorporating specific M-codes for automated digital outputs and peripheral controls. Feed & Speed Calculation: Program optimal abrasive feed rates and cutting speeds using the WARDJet Material Database to minimize taper, while establishing proper spindle RPM and feed rates on the XYZ router to prevent bit deflection. Dynamic Nesting: Execute common line cutting and nesting protocols to maximize raw material yield and accurately track sheet remnants.

Machine Setup & Operational Duties WARDJet Waterjet Operations: Perform multi-axis head calibrations to ensure precise angle and taper control. Manage ultra-high-pressure pumps, monitor abrasive garnet flow rates, and regulate water levels within the tank. Replace high-wear components including mixing tubes and cutting nozzles.

XYZ CNC Router Operations: Secure varying sheet materials using specialized fixture systems and zoned vacuum hold-down pressure. Set accurate X, Y, and Z zero coordinate reference points utilizing XYZ Touch Probes against the workpiece corner or machine bed. Oversee tooling integration, managing automatic tool changers (ATC), spindle setups, and dust collection systems.

Quality Control & Preventative Maintenance: Inspect finished pieces against strict blueprint tolerances using precision micrometers, calipers, and go/no-go gauges. Troubleshoot programming errors, G-code anomalies, or mechanical variances on the fly to maximize uptime. Conduct systematic preventative maintenance, including cleaning WARDJet slats, emptying abrasive sludge, lubricating router guide rails, and checking belt/rack alignments.

Required Technical Qualifications: Experience: 3+ years of professional CNC operation, with verified experience programming both waterjets and routers. Software Proficiency: Direct workflow experience using WARDCAM, standard CAD packages, and router-compatible CAM systems. Technical Acumen: Complete comfort reading complex engineering blueprints, nesting parts manually, and interpreting raw G-code blocks.

Physical Capabilities: Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs, maneuver heavy material sheets, and stand comfortably for extended shop shifts.
