Job description

Job Summary:
Datum Technologies Group is seeking an experienced Mainframe Developer with strong expertise in COBOL, JCL, DB2, VSAM, and Unix Shell Scripting. The role involves developing, supporting, and optimizing mainframe applications, building automation scripts, managing backend integration workflows, and ensuring stability across production and batch systems.
Responsibilities:
• Develop, enhance, and maintain applications using COBOL, JCL, VSAM, and DB2.
• Troubleshoot and resolve mainframe application issues across development, testing, and production environments.
• Optimize COBOL programs, JCL, and DB2 queries for performance improvements.
• Support daily batch processing and ensure job completion while resolving abends.
• Develop and maintain Unix/Linux shell scripts for automation, batch scheduling, and system integration.
• Ensure smooth integration between Unix automation and mainframe systems.
• Enhance existing scripts to improve performance and stability.
• Develop and maintain SQL/PL-SQL procedures, functions, packages, and triggers.
• Perform SQL tuning and optimize database queries for performance.
• Integrate shell scripts with relational databases such as DB2, Oracle, or MySQL.
• Monitor batch jobs and resolve production incidents to ensure system stability.
• Perform root cause analysis (RCA) and implement permanent fixes.
• Continuously tune scripts, jobs, and queries for performance improvement.
• Work with stakeholders to gather requirements and deliver scalable solutions.
• Participate in Agile ceremonies and collaborate with QA, business, and support teams.
• Prepare and maintain technical documentation including design and support documents.
Qualifications:
Required:
• Strong hands-on experience with COBOL, JCL, VSAM, DB2
• Strong Unix/Linux shell scripting experience
• Strong SQL and PL/SQL development skills
• Experience in batch processing and automation workflows
• Strong debugging and analytical skills
• Experience integrating scripts with databases
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Preferred:
• Banking, cards, or financial services domain experience
• Experience with ticketing tools and production support processes
• Exposure to Git, CI/CD, or DevOps practices
• Knowledge of Python or Java for automation
• Additional mainframe exposure: CICS, IMS, PL/I, Assembler, REXX
• Strong IBM mainframe troubleshooting experience
