Job description

Position Purpose

Under the direction of the facility leader, this position is responsible for ensuring that the facility is operating efficiently.

Certified Senior Medical Assistant working in a Medical Home and/or medical group setting will be an integral part of the patient's care team. They will work within the healthcare team, working together to achieve top-quality outcomes and deliver optimal patient-centered care. This position is required to room patients, track and coordinate test results, educate patients, and assist with closing care gaps.

This position will be a resource and provide education to other medical assistants within the medical group on multiple topics, including but not limited to medical assistant workflow, back-office processes, and point-of-care testing. This position may float to various sites within the health system.

Nature and Scope

This position is fluent in all staff level positions and is an integral part of training, staff development and quality assurance. This position models Renown Health's Mission, Vision, and Values, and adheres to policies and procedures and meets productivity standards. This position represents a role model for staff level personnel to emulate.

This position is also responsible for assisting the provider in back office duties, including but not limited to: escorting the patient in the waiting room to the examination room promptly; taking vital signs as per guidelines; maintaining examination room stock; documenting all patient communications; preparing lab specimens for processing; completing the necessary referral forms and obtaining authorizations for referrals and keeping records of same; scheduling patients for tests; placing and receiving phone calls in order of importance and filing into patient charts to become part of the permanent record; and administering treatments and medications per provider order in accordance with established policies.

In addition, this position is responsible for ensuring compliance to medical group standards for the delivery and quality of care within their assigned location(s). Promotes teamwork.

The incumbent must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care based on physical, motor/sensor, psychosocial and safety appropriate to the age of the patient served and meet the standards of quality as measured by the medical group.

This position will keep abreast of all standards to assure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulatory agencies including third party reimbursement requirements.

This position is responsible to assist the manager in daily duties which include but are not limited to competency and quality assurance, etc.

This position is responsible for developing and maintaining positive working relationships with other departments, entities, physicians, and outside agencies.

The incumbent uses professionalism and diplomacy with interacting with patients of all ages, their families, physicians, office staff and other healthcare providers in the accurate collecting of demographic, clinical and financial information in person or via telephone interviews.

This position does provide patient care.

Education:

Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing, and speaking English. Graduation from Medical Assistant school preferred.

Experience:

Requires 2 years of experience in a clinical health care position with minimum of 1 year as a medical assistant. Requires experience to perform basic math skills.

License(s):

Current State of Nevada license for Office Laboratory Assistant or Certified Laboratory Assistant or an application must be submitted within 90 days of employment (excludes departments: 200279, 200280, 200282, 200305, 200317, 200386, 200399, 200410, 200415, 515316, 515317, 530279, 530285, 530288, 530308, 530317, 530367, 530396, 530399).

Certification(s):

Current AHA BLS/CPR required within 90 days.

Some positions may require DOT and Non-DOT drug testing certifications required at time of hire.

Ability to obtain and maintain one of the following certifications required at time of hire:

Certified Clinical Medical Assistant (CCMA) – issued by National Healthcareer Association (NHA)

Clinical Medical Assistant Certification (CMAC) – issued by American Medical Certification Association (AMCA)

Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – issued by American Association of Medical Assistants (AAMA)

National Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) – issued by National Center for Competency Testing (NCCT)

Nationally Registered Certified Medical Assistant (NRCMA) – issued by National Association for Health Professionals (NAHP)
