Start Date: September 14, 2026
End Date: December 4, 2026
Location: This position will be hybrid located in Washington DC, Northern Virginia, or the DMV area
Hours: Part-time; Between 15-30 hours per week, with flexible hours as needed

As a Washington DC/DMV Organizing Intern, you'll work closely with our National Organizing team to mobilize members and volunteers in the nation's capital and surrounding areas. Your work will fall into two areas. The first is mobilizing members in the DC area to respond to rapid developments relating to reproductive freedom, including blocking harmful legislation in Congress, and opposing anti-choice judicial nominations. The second area is assisting our organizing efforts in Virginia surrounding this fall's midterm elections that include a crucial ballot measure on reproductive freedom.

You'll gain hands-on experience in grassroots tactics and recruiting supporters to participate in advocacy actions like legislative meetings and call-in days as well as electoral campaign work including hosting phone banks and running canvassing events. You will also assist in building up long-term organizing capacity in the DMV area.

This role is an excellent opportunity for someone interested in developing organizing skills and making an impact on issues affecting reproductive freedom as we face the Trump administration, a right-wing Supreme Court, and crucial midterm elections in the fall.

In this internship, you will:
  • Planning, organizing, and hosting weekly grassroots or advocacy events, including but not limited to virtual phone banks and call-in days to build public pressure against harmful bills, oppose extreme judicial nominees, or support reproductive freedom champions running for office;
  • Assist with organizing rapid response events and actions in the DC/DMV area;
  • Prepare training materials and content to equip volunteers with the tools they need to advocate effectively;
  • Recruit and engage members and volunteers, ensuring strong turnout for actions;
  • Follow up with volunteers to introduce ongoing opportunities for leadership, such as one-on-one meetings with emerging leaders;
  • Attend department meetings and team training sessions;
  • Track organizing and outreach efforts in project management tools, including VAN;
  • Attend in-person campaign events in Virginia;
  • Attend potential rapid response moments in Washington, DC on Capitol Hill or at the US Supreme Court.
In this internship, you will learn:
  • A deeper understanding of the reproductive freedom movement, current policies, and effective organizing and advocacy techniques;
  • Key grassroots organizing tactics essential to mobilizing communities, including pitching volunteer opportunities, recruitment, phone banking, and one-on-one meetings with emerging leaders;
  • Skills in working with and training volunteers, as well as organizing impactful advocacy events;
  • Experience in planning and managing projects within a political organization;
  • Proficiency in organizing tools such as VAN, Hustle, Slack, and Control Shift.
We're looking for someone who:
  • Has previous grassroots or electoral organizing experience (professional or volunteer) or a demonstrated interest in organizing;
  • Has experience organizing others to get involved in a cause;
  • Is excited to talk to people one on one or in groups about reproductive rights;
  • Is interested in gaining professional experience in politics and organizing;
  • Is open to working some nights and weekends to attend campaign events;
  • Not mandatory, but let us know if you speak multiple languages;
  • Has a demonstrated commitment to contributing to a workplace environment in which diversity is valued and supported;
  • Demonstrates an alignment with our organization's values.
