Job description


Summary:

Under general supervision of Terminal Supervisor, the Terminal Operator is responsible for operating all Terminal equipment in connection with receiving, storing, transferring, and loading of refined petroleum products in a reliable and efficient manner while in compliance with the Partnership's procedures and regulatory requirements.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential job duty satisfactorily. The essential job duties for this position are listed below:

  • Gauge storage tanks and take meter readings for all products on a daily basis
  • Provide top-tier customer service to commercial and operations customer representatives
  • Calculate and input all product inventories and meter readings into appropriate systems
  • Perform daily and monthly reconciliation of product inventories and thru-puts
  • Perform facility maintenance on office building, assets, vegetation, as needed
  • Perform the safe loading of petroleum products onto trucks and receive products from pipelines
  • Travel to various refined products and crude facilities with little notice to effectively assist terminals across the organization
  • Take product samples as required and perform/log required Quality control tests
  • Perform and log all scheduled maintenance and compliance inspections
  • Ensure that all terminal equipment is functioning properly and report failures to supervisor
  • Perform daily walk around inspections to identify potential risks and ensure good housekeeping standards are maintained
  • Issue work permits to contractors performing work at the Terminal. This includes ensuring that pre-job safety meetings, lockout - tag-out, confined space entry, and gas tech monitoring requirements are met for all work performed at the Terminal
  • Correcting or stopping all unsafe acts or conditions not in accordance with Company Policies and Procedures by any party entering the facility
  • Remain knowledgeable of, and prepared to enact and coordinate the Emergency Response activities until relieved by supervisor or management personnel
  • Communicate product outages and equipment downtime to supervisor, customers, and other impacted parties in a prompt fashion

Required Education:

  • High school diploma or GED

Minimum Requirements:

  • Effectively communicate with peers and management of various levels
  • Self-starter able work with little or no supervision
  • Carry a pager or cell phone allowing for shift hold over or shift reassignment, as well as call out at all hours
  • Able to use basic hand tools and operate basic product testing equipment
  • Proficient in mathematics and able to perform all required calculations
  • Proficient with Microsoft Suite
  • Must be able to communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and written
  • Must have and maintain a valid driver's license for state of residence
  • Able to notice subtle Color differences in product samples
  • Must be willing and able to work as a part of team, take direction from supervisor(s), prioritize work schedules, focus attention to details, and follow work rules.
  • Will be required, after 3-month training period, to work a 2nd shift. Hours will be 3:00 PM - 11:30 PM. The selected candidate will also be required to be on a rotating weekend overtime coverage.

  4. Work on and around equipment and facilities that require knowledge of and adherence to safe work procedures and practices
  5. Subject to call-outs to respond to operational issues and emergencies after working hours, at night, and on weekends and holidays
  6. Reliable attendance at work
  7. Occasional overnight travel may be required
