Description of Work
The Assistant Director of TRIO Student Support Services (SSS) makes a positive impact in the University's students by providing leadership for programs that support the persistence, retention, and graduation of first-generation, low-income, and disabled University of Nebraska-Lincoln students.
The Assistant Director, TRIO Student Support Services will:
  • Administer and implement innovative and high-impact programs and services for SSS participants to aid in retention and graduation
  • Collaborate with University and community partnerships that will achieve the grants objectives and outcomes
  • Promote the services available to SSS programs and recruit eligible students to participate in the program
  • Recruit, hire, train, and lead a staff of professional staff, graduate assistants, and student workers to fulfill the mission of Student Support Services
  • Assist in yearly administration of Student Support Services grant budget
  • Assess and monitor program data and outcomes. Assist in daily documentation for yearly Annual Performance Reporting

Minimum Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in education, leadership, public administration, psychology/counseling, or related field
  • A minimum of three years of experience working in higher education and/or in the administration of programs service low-income or 1st generation populations
  • Two years of experience supervising staff
  • Ability to develop programming to aid in student college success
  • Ability to support ongoing professional development for staff
  • Ability to provide leadership for program planning, to coordinate work efforts, to control performance standards, and to build and sustain University support relationships
  • Maintain accurate student records and produce reports on student progress as needed
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Attendance at conferences and workshops sponsored by the U.S. Department of Education and other TRIO-affiliated associations.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and meet University driver eligibility requirements.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree
  • Direct experience working with a TRIO program, SSS preferred
  • Experience with data management for TRIO programs and/or reporting to the Department of Education
  • Experience developing, implementing, and managing a budget
  • Experience managing and meeting grant objectives and expectations.
