Job description

POSITION PURPOSE

The Strategic Sourcing Manager – Steel & Fabrication is responsible for developing and executing sourcing strategies, supplier partnerships, and supply continuity initiatives for steel-related commodities and fabricated components supporting multiple North and Latin America manufacturing facilities.

This role will develop and execute strategic sourcing initiatives focused on raw steel, outsourced steel fabrication, roll formed shapes, galvanizing services, and key steel-based supplier partnerships.

The position plays a critical role in ensuring material availability, managing market volatility, driving cost competitiveness, and strengthening supplier performance while supporting operational, quality, and growth objectives.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • Own strategic sourcing, supplier management, and supply continuity for steel-related commodities and fabricated components supporting 4+ North American manufacturing facilities.
  • Develop and execute sourcing strategies for:
    • Raw steel procurement
    • Steel outsourcing and fabricated assemblies
    • Roll formed shapes
    • Galvanizing services
    • Steel-intensive supplier categories
  • Lead commercial and operational management of key suppliers
  • Negotiate pricing agreements, contracts, capacity commitments, and long-term supplier partnerships to support business objectives.
  • Monitor steel market trends, indices, mill dynamics, coating availability, tariffs, and supply risks to proactively manage cost and continuity.
  • Drive supplier performance improvements related to: Cost, Quality, Delivery, Lead time, Responsiveness, Capacity planning. KPI’s related to: cost savings, PPV, OTD, quality, risk.
  • Partner closely with Operations, Engineering, Planning, and Quality teams to support New product launches, Capacity expansion, Dual sourcing initiatives, Risk mitigation plans, Material transitions and qualifications
  • Lead supply continuity efforts during allocation environments, shortages, or market disruptions.
  • Support annual cost reduction targets.
  • Ensure suppliers meet company requirements related to: Quality systems, Compliance, Country of origin documentation, Trade regulations, Sustainability expectations
  • Conduct supplier business reviews, site visits, and executive-level supplier escalations as needed.
  • Maintain strong collaboration with internal stakeholders across Supply Chain, Manufacturing, Engineering, Finance, and Commercial teams. Will align closely with SIOP process.

NATURE & SCOPE

The Strategic Sourcing Manager - Steel & Fabrication leads sourcing activities for steel-related commodities and fabricated components supporting North American manufacturing operations. This role is responsible for supply continuity, cost management, supplier performance, and strategic sourcing initiatives.

Primary responsibilities include managing supplier relationships and sourcing activities related to raw steel, outsourced fabrication, roll formed components, galvanizing services, and steel-intensive manufactured products supporting production operations across 4+ manufacturing facilities.

This position works closely with Operations, Engineering, Planning, Quality, and supplier leadership teams to support production continuity, capacity planning, new program launches, material qualifications, and long-term sourcing strategies. The individual is also responsible for managing supplier escalations, monitoring steel market conditions, and driving continuous improvement within the supply base.

The role requires strong commercial acumen, supplier relationship management, steel market knowledge, and the ability to operate effectively within fast-paced, multi-site manufacturing environments.

KNOWLEDGE & SKILLS

  • Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Business, Engineering, Operations, or related field preferred.
  • 7+ years of strategic sourcing, procurement, or supply chain experience within manufacturing environments.
  • Strong knowledge of steel commodities, fabricated components, and industrial supply markets.
  • Experience negotiating complex supplier agreements and managing strategic supplier relationships.
  • Ability to analyze market conditions, cost drivers, and operational risks.
  • Strong communication, leadership, and cross-functional collaboration skills.
  • ERP experience (SAP preferred)
  • Preferred Experience:
    • Steel mills, service centers, or fabrication suppliers experience
    • Roll forming and outsourced manufacturing processes
    • Multi-site manufacturing support
    • Supply chain risk management and allocation environments
    • Should cost modeling and commodity forecasting

BAC Hiring Compensation Range $98,400 to $168,900.
