Job description

Leapros Skilled Trades is actively hiring Solar Engineer in Oak Brook, IL. The Solar Engineer provides comprehensive electrical engineering design for renewable energy projects, focusing on photovoltaic and energy storage systems from concept through close-out. The ideal candidate possesses significant experience in electrical construction and design, demonstrating proficiency in modeling software and the technical ability to conduct complex electrical studies for utility interconnection.

Job Type: Permanent

Annual Salary: $107,000 to $125,000 Annually BOE

Licenses/Certifications Required:

  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)
  • NABCEP Certification
  • AutoCad Certification

Responsibilities:

  • Model photovoltaic systems using PVSyst or Helioscope software to provide accurate output production estimates.
  • Conduct project site surveys to determine existing field conditions and evaluate existing electrical infrastructure.
  • Design interconnection drawings, electrical permit sets, and construction drawings in accordance with building codes and project requirements.
  • Perform electrical studies including voltage drop, ampacity, power factor, arc fault, short circuit, and protection coordination.
  • Develop project installation details, single-line diagrams, and equipment schedules for submission to stakeholders and approval authorities.
  • Create detailed shop drawings and installation documents for field personnel to use during construction.
  • Scan building existing conditions using drone or ground-based scanners and integrate data into design layouts.
  • Produce precise layouts in AutoCAD and Revit based on site conditions, building codes, and customer requirements.
  • Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and installation contractors to provide information necessary for successful project execution.
  • Capture record drawings from the field and update shop drawings based on field markups and in-person visits.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering or equivalent electrical construction-related field experience.
  • 5+ years of experience in renewable energy electrical construction and design.
  • Expertise in AutoCAD 2D, AutoCAD 3D, Revit Modeling, Bluebeam, and renewable energy modeling software.
  • In-depth electrical knowledge with the ability to conduct protective relaying and equipment selection.
  • General construction and electrical construction knowledge preferred.
  • Intermediate proficiency in MS Office software.
  • Ability to thrive in a deadline-driven, high-pressure environment with a focus on quality and detail.
  • Strong client service and team orientation.

Physical Requirements:

  • Regularly required to stand, sit, reach, stoop, and use hands to operate computers and scanning equipment for prolonged periods.
  • Ability to conduct site surveys, which may involve walking on uneven terrain or navigating construction sites.
  • Specific vision abilities required for computer-aided design and detailed electrical modeling.
  • Light to moderate lifting may be required occasionally.
