We are seeking an experienced Field Service Manager - Solar & ESS Operations to lead field operations across utility-scale solar and energy storage sites. This role is responsible for overseeing technicians and subcontractors performing troubleshooting, maintenance, replacement, recycling, and commissioning activities for PV and ESS systems.
The ideal candidate has a strong utility-scale solar background combined with hands-on ESS/BESS experience and proven leadership in field operations. These are local sites - candidates should reside within 50 miles of the Tucson, Arizona area.
Core Responsibilities
- Supervise daily field operations on ESS/ utility-scale solar farm sites
- Assign tasks, monitor productivity, and ensure project timelines are met
- Oversee troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance of:
- Central and string inverters
- Combiner boxes
- DC string circuits
- Ground-mount PV systems
- Support and verify testing activities including:
- LOTO procedures
- IV curve tracing
- Megger/insulation resistance testing
- Infrared (IR) thermography scans
- Ensure all work is performed in compliance with OSHA, NFPA 70E, and company safety standards
- Conduct field inspections and quality control checks on completed work
- Coordinate with project management, operations, and site leadership teams
- Troubleshoot and resolve system issues in the field
- Complete and review service documentation, reports, and work orders
- Maintain company tools, vehicles, and equipment
- Train, develop, and support junior technicians and field personnel
Core Experience
- Working knowledge of Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS/ESS)
- Experience supporting ESS removal, replacement, recycling, or commissioning activities
- 5+ years of utility-scale solar experience (solar farms / ground-mount PV systems)
- Experience supporting ESS removal, replacement, recycling, or commissioning activities
- Prior experience in a supervisory, lead technician, or crew leadership role
- Strong background in utility-scale solar O&M and field service operations
- Experience working on megawatt-scale PV systems (non-residential)
- Advanced electrical troubleshooting experience with:
- Inverters
- DC systems
- Power electronics
Working knowledge of OSHA and NFPA 70E safety requirements
Experience using testing and diagnostic equipment:
- Multimeters
- Meggers
- Amp clamps
- IV curve tracers
- Thermal imaging equipment
Basic computer proficiency (Microsoft Office, reporting systems, work orders)
Physical / Work Environment
- Candidates residing near Tucson, Arizona preferred
- Frequent travel to BESS/utility-scale solar farm sites
- Ability to lift and move equipment up to 50 lbs.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions including heat, cold, wind, and dust
Compensation: $130,000+ salary/DOE
