Client: Department of Veterans Affairs (VA)

Location: 100% Remote

Salary: $120,000 – $140,000 annually (Based on experience and technical interview)

Employment Type: Full-Time

Citizenship: U.S. Citizen Required

Clearance: Must be able to meet VA security and suitability requirements

Position Overview

Premier Enterprise Solutions is seeking an experienced Data Governance / Data Manager to support the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) Office of Acquisition and Administration (OAA). This role is responsible for establishing and maturing enterprise data governance practices that support a Level 4–5 CMMI target operating maturity across the OAA application portfolio.

The successful candidate will lead enterprise data governance initiatives by identifying authoritative data sources, standardizing data definitions, improving metadata quality, resolving data inconsistencies, and enhancing reporting accuracy across Microsoft-based platforms including SQL Server 2022, SSRS, Power BI, SharePoint, Power Apps, and Azure Data Engineering services.

This position will play a critical role in improving data quality, supporting audit readiness, and enabling enterprise-wide data-driven decision-making while ensuring compliance with VA security, Authority to Operate (ATO), and governance requirements.

Key Responsibilities

Enterprise Data Governance

  • Develop and maintain enterprise data governance standards, policies, and best practices.
  • Identify and document authoritative data sources across the OAA application portfolio.
  • Standardize enterprise data definitions and resolve duplicate or conflicting data elements.
  • Improve data quality, consistency, and governance maturity across enterprise systems.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Data Management, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field (no substitutions accepted).
  • Minimum 5 years of experience in:
    • Data Governance
    • Data Management
    • Data Administration
  • Experience implementing enterprise data governance frameworks and best practices.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Microsoft SQL Server
    • Data quality management
    • Metadata management
    • Data lineage and traceability
  • Excellent analytical, documentation, and communication skills.

  • Collaborate with business stakeholders to improve reporting accuracy and data accessibility.

Data Architecture & Integration

  • Support Azure Data Engineering initiatives and Microsoft Power Platform integrations.
  • Evaluate enterprise data architecture and recommend improvements supporting scalable governance.
  • Recommend Master Data Management (MDM), metadata-driven, or data fabric approaches aligned with the VA's Microsoft ecosystem, subject to Government approval.

Compliance & Audit Support

  • Provide data governance support for Authority to Operate (ATO) documentation and security assessments.
  • Assist with audit preparation by ensuring complete metadata, documentation, and traceability.
  • Support compliance with VA security policies and enterprise governance standards.
