Duties

Duties include but are not limited to:

Corporate Department Responsibilities

  • Conduct oneself with integrity, considering the Company established business mission, vision, and values, to provide solution-based benefits for Star of the West, its employees and its business partners.
  • Assist Director in conducting regular, well-organized and thorough reviews of Written Programs, Company Policies, Department Functions and Risk Controls
  • Provide guidance, develop tools and audit facilities to assist locations throughout Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Minnesota, North Dakota and New York in achieving desired compliance related outcomes.
  • Participate in Merger and Acquisition (M&A) activities and other projects as assigned by Management Team
  • Conduct required training including but not limited to; New Hire Orientation, DOT Hazmat, Drug and Alcohol Supervisory Training, Driver New Hire Training,
  • Project Management, while managing change with deliberate speed, as determined by Management Team
  • Conduct incident and near-miss investigations and ensure completion of identified corrective actions.
  • Assist Safety and Security Director in Project implementation, daily and weekly functions
  • Actively Participate in outreach with local emergency responders and community stakeholders.
  • Assist in management of Corporate properties

Corporate Department of Transportation DOT Responsibilities

  • Administer and Continue to develop Department of Transportation Programs with objective of Corporate Compliance
  • Administer and Manage DOT and Non-DOT Drug and Alcohol Testing Pools
  • Manage DOT Driver Files for existing and new hire employees
  • Develop and Manage DOT Hazardous Material Shipping Compliance
  • Develop and Manage DOT Intermediate Bulk Container Compliance
  • Department of Transportation Hours of Service Compliance, Log Review
  • Stay current with regard to new developments in the industry and rules and regulations
  • Analyze Company Operator Motor Vehicle Reports (MVR) for compliance with jurisdictional, job description and insurance requirements,
  • Driver Policy Manual Construction and Management

Corporate Fleet Responsibilities

  • Maintain Comprehensive Listing of Company Vehicles and Equipment
  • Maintain Vehicle Registrations for Company Units- Apportioned and Intrastate Registrations
  • Manage Vehicle Insurance Coverages
  • Manage Vehicle Accident Files
  • File Annual Highway Use tax information
  • Manage Annual Canadian Insurance Bond
  • Manage Canadian Border Services Agency Info
  • Manage Ontario Commercial Vehicle Operators Registration
  • Manage Fuel Tax Compliance
  • Manage Kosher Certification for Trailers
  • Manage Annual United Carrier Registration
  • Manage Transportation Maintenance Documentation Compliance
  • Assist in Management of fleet telematics systems
  • Manage Corporate Vehicle Pool

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college / university or high school diploma with three (3) years’ experience in transportation compliance, trucking or a related field.
  • Must be able to sit, stand, kneel, bend, walk, climb stairs, climb ladders, work at heights, wear PPE, and emergency response equipment as needed
  • Ability to define problems, collect data and communicate effectively with employees and government agencies. Comfortable speaking to groups and teaching in a classroom environment.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret regulations or other industry documents.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Problem-solving skills
  • Be willing to travel up to 20% of expected work time to locations which may involve overnight stays

Physical Demands

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to:

  • Sit for extended periods of time
  • Stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear
  • Occasionally required to climb in high precarious places
  • Occasionally required to move/lift up to 50 lbs.
