Overview

Quality Control Manager (Inspection Team)Joby Aviation is seeking a Quality Control Manager to lead shop-floor Quality Control and Inspection teams across manufacturing operations. Reporting to the Senior Manager of Quality Control, this role directs daily quality control and hands-on inspection activities ensuring the safety, reliability, and conformity of aircraft parts.APPLICANT NOTICE: This is a hands-on, floor-level Quality Control & Inspection leadership role; not a Design Engineering or Quality Engineering position. Candidates must have direct experience supervising or managing physical inspection teams and quality control operations in a manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities
  • Lead, mentor, and manage assigned Quality Control inspectors and floor inspection leads across production facilities.
  • Ensure receiving, in-process, and final inspections are executed in compliance with engineering drawings, work instructions, and FAA standards.
  • Manage inspector shift scheduling and operational priorities to support production throughput.
  • Collaborate with Manufacturing and Quality Engineering to improve physical inspection flow and reduce defect rates.
  • Oversee shop-floor Material Review Board (MRB) activities and nonconforming material control.
  • Monitor inspection metrics, first-pass yield, and quality trends to drive continuous process improvements.
  • Support failure investigations, root cause analysis, corrective actions, and regulatory/QMS audits.
Required
  • Minimum 6+ years of direct experience leading physical inspection teams or managing Quality Control shop-floor operations in a hardware manufacturing environment.
  • Bachelor's degree with 8+ years, Master's with 6+ years, PhD with 3+ years, or 15+ years of relevant hands-on QC/inspection experience in lieu of a degree.
  • Proven leadership in managing, training, and qualifying quality inspectors.
  • Strong practical expertise with manufacturing inspection tools, measurement equipment, precision gauges, CMM, and GD&T principles.
  • Proficiency in reading and interpreting complex engineering drawings and specifications.
  • Aerospace, aviation, automotive, or regulated manufacturing industry experience.
  • Note: Design engineering or general quality engineering backgrounds without direct inspection leadership experience will not qualify for this position.
Desired
  • Knowledge of FAA regulatory requirements (Part 21/145) and AS9100 / ISO 9001 QMS standards.
  • Experience with AS9102 First Article Inspections (FAI).
  • FAA A&P license, IA, or NDT certifications.

Compensation at Joby is a combination of base pay and Restricted Stock Units (RSUs). The target base pay for this position is $95,600 - $195,000 per year. The compensation package will be determined by job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.
