Manager Project Manager information

What does a project manager do?

A Project Manager is responsible for planning, executing, and overseeing projects to ensure they are completed on time, within budget, and meet the required quality standards. They coordinate the efforts of team members, manage resources, and communicate with stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle. Project Managers also identify and mitigate risks, resolve issues, and ensure that project objectives are achieved according to the defined scope.

What are the key skills and qualifications needed to thrive as a project manager, and why are they important?

To thrive as a Project Manager, you need strong organizational, leadership, and problem-solving skills, often supported by a bachelor’s degree and experience in project management. Familiarity with project management software (like Microsoft Project, Asana, or Jira) and certifications such as PMP or PRINCE2 are commonly expected. Outstanding communication, negotiation, and adaptability set exceptional project managers apart. These skills and qualifications are crucial for delivering projects on time, within scope, and fostering effective teamwork.

What are some common challenges faced by project managers in balancing leadership and project delivery responsibilities?

Manager Project Managers often juggle the dual responsibilities of overseeing a team of project managers while also ensuring successful delivery of complex projects. A common challenge is allocating sufficient time to support team development and mentorship without compromising project deadlines or quality. Additionally, they must ensure clear communication across multiple stakeholders and resolve resource conflicts proactively. Balancing strategic oversight with hands-on project problem-solving is key, and effective delegation and time management are essential to thrive in this role.

Job description

Senior Project Manager – Data Center & Mission-Critical Construction
Teklus Construction | Reno–Sparks, NV | Full-Time, On-Site

Teklus Construction is hiring a Senior Project Manager / Project Management Lead to take ownership of a large, complex, mission-critical construction project in Northern Nevada — from preconstruction and estimating through construction, turnover, and closeout. This senior role also includes direct leadership of our project-management team.

WHAT WE OFFER
- Benefits package
- Full project ownership and real decision-making authority
- A direct path to lead and grow Teklus's project-management organization

ABOUT THE ROLE
We're looking for a proven construction leader who can independently take ownership of a project, build the systems
needed for success, and drive execution forward with limited oversight, someone equally strong in the field as in
preconstruction, who delivers safely, on schedule, and on budget. This is not a coordinator or assistant-level position.

RESPONSIBILITIES
- Lead the project through preconstruction, estimating, and procurement planning into full construction execution
- Prepare and validate estimates, budgets, and cost plans; lead constructability reviews and value-engineering
- Lead subcontractor buyout, bid leveling, and proposal evaluation
- Own the full project-management plan: budget, schedule, procurement, staffing, risk, quality, and closeout
- Direct day-to-day field execution — trade partners, MEP/controls scopes, equipment deliveries, and commissioning
- Serve as primary client point of contact; build trust through proactive communication
- Supervise the Project Manager assigned to this project and lead across the broader PM team
- Coach and develop Project Managers while holding them accountable for results
- Manage project budget, forecasts, and cost-to-complete projections; drive profitability targets
- Manage change orders, notices, and claims documentation
- Develop and enforce the project schedule; develop recovery plans as needed
- Coordinate quality control and commissioning appropriate to mission-critical work
- Champion an incident-free safety culture with EHS and field leadership

REQUIREMENTS
- 10+ years of progressively responsible commercial or industrial construction management experience
- 5+ years in a Senior Project Manager, Project Executive, Preconstruction Manager, or comparable leadership role
- Demonstrated experience leading large, complex, fast-paced construction projects
- Experience managing multiple Project Managers or a project-management team
- Strong knowledge of contracts, cost control, scheduling, and change management
- Proficiency with construction-management, estimating, and scheduling software
- Ability to work on-site in the Reno–Sparks area and travel as required

PREFERRED
- Direct experience with data centers, mission-critical facilities, advanced manufacturing, or semiconductor construction
- Experience with negotiated, design-build, or CM-at-risk delivery methods
- Experience with Procore, Bluebeam, Primavera P6, or comparable platforms
- Bachelor's degree in Construction Management, Engineering, or related field
- OSHA 30, PMP, CCM, DBIA, or LEED AP certification

HOW TO APPLY

Please submit a resume and a cover letter describing:

  • the largest or most complex project you have personally led
  • your experience leading projects from preconstruction and estimating through final completion
  • your specific role in developing estimates, budgets, scopes, bid packages, and subcontractor comparisons
  • your responsibility for project cost, schedule, contracts, procurement, and team performance
  • your experience managing other Project Managers
  • your experience with mission-critical, datacenter, industrial, or similarly complex construction
  • your availability to work in the Reno–Sparks area.
