The Department of Professional and Continuing Education (PaCE) at the University of California, Santa Barbara invites applications for a pool of qualified temporary, part-time instructors to teach on-site and online courses in our Project Management programs for upcoming openings.
These programs help students and working professionals develop practical skills in project planning, execution, risk management, procurement, and program leadership. Courses emphasize applied learning and real-world project scenarios that prepare students to manage projects across industries. Instruction may also incorporate Agile frameworks, modern collaboration tools, and emerging technologies such as AI-assisted project management tools.
We seek instructors who bring substantial professional experience in areas such as:
- Project planning, scheduling, and resource management
- Project execution, monitoring, and risk mitigation
- Agile and adaptive project management practices
- Program and portfolio management
- Governance, compliance, and project controls

Instructor duties include but are not limited to:
- Prepare and deliver course materials aligned with program learning objectives.
- Design assessments and engaging learning activities that support student learning and skill development.
- Update course content periodically to reflect evolving industry practices and program feedback.
- Communicate course expectations, learning objectives, and grading policies clearly to students.
- Respond to student questions and learning needs in a timely and professional manner.
- Employ inclusive teaching practices that support diverse learners, including students with documented accommodations.
- Evaluate student performance and assign grades based on established learning outcomes.
- Submit final grades within university timelines and address student inquiries regarding course evaluation as needed.
- Maintain student records in accordance with University policies.
The posting will remain open until March 31, 2027 to accommodate department needs. The pool will close on March 31, 2027; if you would like to continue to be considered after that time, and the pooled position is advertised again, you will need to submit a new application.

Screening of applicants begins immediately after the Initial Review Date has passed; some appointments may begin as early as the 2026 summer quarter. The number of these temporary, part-time, non-tenure track, academic positions varies from quarter to quarter, depending on the needs of the department. Appointments are offered on a course-by-course basis, and appointment length is based upon course section schedule(s). Appointments may be renewable based on need, funding, and performance.

Qualifications
Basic qualifications (required at time of application)
A bachelor's degree in project management, business administration, engineering, operations management, information systems, or a related discipline, or a relevant professional project management credential.
Additional qualifications (required at time of start)
A minimum of 3 years of professional experience managing projects, programs, or project teams in a relevant professional field.
Preferred qualifications
- Master's degree in project management, business administration, or a related discipline or 5+ years of professional project management experience.
- Professional experience in one or more areas such as:
- Project planning and scheduling
- Risk management and project controls
- Agile or adaptive project management frameworks
- Program or portfolio management
- Project governance or compliance"
- Current Project Management Professional (PMP) certification strongly preferred, particularly for instructors teaching courses aligned with PMP exam preparation and the 35 course contact hours required for PMP eligibility. Candidates without current certification should demonstrate the ability and willingness to obtain PMP certification prior to teaching.
- Prior teaching, training, or corporate facilitation experience
- Experience using Learning Management Systems (Canvas, Moodle, or similar) or willingness to learn
