Area Manager
Location: Boise, ID
Compensation: $200,000 Base + Performance Bonus up to 20%
ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
Workspire is partnering with a rapidly expanding, self-perform industrial services organization to identify an Area Manager who will own and scale a defined geographic P&L across the Pacific Northwest. This is a foundational leadership hire in a growing regional platform, anchored by major industrial work across the Columbia Basin corridor, with direct visibility to regional and executive leadership and influence across a multi-craft industrial trade platform, including mission-critical environments.
This role is built for a commercially driven operator who can sell work, lead through people, and run a book by the numbers. The primary responsibility is business development: converting established regional relationships into secured backlog, then building the leadership bench that delivers it. You will oversee a localized book of business with significant room to scale, manage operational execution through Project Executives, Project Managers, and field leadership, and shape how the organization grows across the region.
The organization is a self-perform industrial contractor: work is executed by its own direct-hire craft crews, not through layers of subcontractors, and it operates on established systems and SOPs. This is a performance execution role: 'Land and Expand', maximize the operating model, capture the market, build the right bench, protect margin, and grow the region responsibly.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
- Within the first 6-12 months, take full ownership of the area P&L: annual budget, monthly forecasting, backlog visibility, and margin performance across concurrent projects
- Convert your established Pacific Northwest relationships into secured backlog and new client wins, leading customer meetings, proposal development, and the full-service cross-selling message
- Hire and stand up the delivery leadership layer beneath you, beginning with the Project Executive tier, to scale the area under a divide-and-conquer growth model
- Own safety performance across the area, meeting or exceeding company standards (TRIR, EMR, and leading indicators) and reinforcing a top-down safety culture
- Run production accountability across self-performed scopes: labor productivity, earned-versus-burned hours, crew utilization, and schedule reliability
- Drive diversification across the end markets available in the region, balancing mission-critical anchor work with advanced manufacturing, power, food and beverage, and other industrial verticals
- Participate in preconstruction and bid reviews to validate constructability, risk exposure, crew makeup, and staffing plans
- Identify margin erosion early and implement recovery plans, partnering with peer discipline leaders to strengthen execution across service lines
WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR
- 12+ years of progressive leadership experience within self-perform industrial construction, specialty contracting, and/or mission-critical environments
- Demonstrated success owning a geographic or area-level P&L ($40MM or larger book preferred)
- Operating history inside a self-perform contracting environment, directing your own craft workforce; careers built on general-contractor or construction-management subcontractor oversight are not the fit for this seat
- A personal record of client capture: relationships that convert to awarded work, not just relationships that get maintained
- Track record of building high-performing teams and leadership bench depth in a growth environment
- Strong financial acumen: forecasting accuracy, cost-to-complete discipline, and margin protection
- Experience operating within structured, SOP-driven environments
- Commitment to safety-first leadership and top-down culture reinforcement
- Ability to operate with urgency and decisive execution
- Must be established and locally embedded in the Boise or broader Pacific Northwest industrial market; this is not a relocation opportunity
- A deep technical background in a single trade is not required; this seat is hired for commercial leadership, with trade expertise supplied by peer discipline leaders
- Valid driver's license and ability to travel regularly within the region
If you are excited about this role but do not meet every qualification, we still encourage you to apply. We value candidates who meet 80-85% of the core criteria and bring a strong capacity to learn.
WHY THIS ROLE STANDS OUT
- Foundational leadership position in a high-growth regional expansion, reporting directly to regional executive leadership
- Full geographic P&L ownership with the autonomy to build your own leadership bench
- Self-perform delivery model that keeps safety, quality, schedule, and margin under leadership's direct control
- Influence across multiple service lines and industrial verticals in one of the fastest-growing industrial markets in the country
- Strong centralized support functions, allowing focus on clients and execution rather than bureaucracy
- Significant earnings upside tied to performance
