Job description

Title: Project Accountant
Location: Onsite in Raleigh 
Type: Contract to Hire (6 Months)
Schedule: 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM or 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented Project Accountant to join a growing team supporting high-volume project operations. This role is primarily focused on project accounting administration, working heavily within internal systems to manage project setup, track expenses, and support billing processes.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with strong foundational accounting knowledge who enjoys working in a fast-paced, highly collaborative environment but is not seeking a traditional GL-focused accounting role.

 
Key Responsibilities
  • Support project accounting functions across 100+ active projects and 180+ employees
  • Maintain and update project data within internal systems (Astea & P21—similar to SAP/QuickBooks environments)
  • Add employees and resources to projects based on internal requests
  • Review and monitor project expenses for accuracy and completeness
  • Create and distribute purchase orders (POs) for project-related spend
  • Monitor, manage and respond to requests through a shared team inbox
  • Collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure timely processing of project-related transactions
  • Follow up on bill payments and inquiries via email; escalate issues to corporate when necessary
  • Assist with invoicing processes after completing onboarding/training in project accounting workflows

Qualifications
Required:
  • Basic understanding of generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP)
  • Experience with QuickBooks or similar accounting software
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage high-volume, error-sensitive work
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize effectively, especially during peak periods (Mondays & Fridays)
  • Comfortable working in a shared inbox environment with frequent email communication
  • Strong organizational and follow-up skills
Preferred:
  • Exposure to project accounting concepts
  • Experience with ERP systems (e.g., SAP, P21, or similar)
  • Previous experience supporting multiple projects or stakeholders
Team & Work Environment
  • Join a team of 4 (this will be the 5th member)
  • Highly collaborative, fast-paced environment
  • Significant training provided on internal systems and project accounting processes
  • Heavy workflow at the start and end of each week—strong time management is key
