Project Accountant

Position Summary

We are seeking a Project Accountant to join a growing construction team. This role will work closely with Project Managers and the construction team to manage the financial performance of projects, with a strong focus on job costing, forecasting, budgeting, cost coding, and variance analysis.

The ideal candidate will have construction accounting experience, strong analytical skills, and the ability to translate financial information into practical insights for Project Managers.

Key Responsibilities

  • Partner closely with Project Managers to monitor and manage project financial performance.
  • Prepare and maintain project forecasts, cost-to-complete projections, and budget updates.
  • Monitor project costs, commitments, and purchase orders against approved budgets.
  • Review and code invoices, subcontractor costs, purchase orders, and other project expenses accurately.
  • Investigate variances, identify potential cost overruns, and proactively flag financial risks.
  • Work with Project Managers to identify and track change orders and their financial impact.
  • Participate in regular project forecasting and cost-to-complete meetings.
  • Ensure project budgets, cost codes, and financial information are accurately maintained in Jonas and Procore.
  • Review and reconcile project information between Procore and Jonas.
  • Assist with progress billings, holdbacks, subcontractor payments, and project-related documentation.
  • Prepare accruals, journal entries, and reclassifications as required during month-end.
  • Provide Project Managers with timely financial reporting and analysis to support project decisions.
  • Identify opportunities to improve project accounting, forecasting, and financial processes.

Qualifications & Experience

  • 3+ years of accounting experience, preferably within the construction industry.
  • Strong experience with job costing, project accounting, forecasting, and budget management.
  • Experience working directly with Project Managers or construction teams.
  • Strong understanding of construction costs, subcontractors, purchase orders, change orders, and project commitments.
  • Experience with Jonas and Procore is strongly preferred.
  • Strong Excel skills and analytical abilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Highly organized, proactive, and detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines.
  • CPA designation or progress toward a CPA is an asset but not required.
