About the team

We are seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our Developer Experience team within the Connection organization. This team owns Alloy's external-facing integration surface - the APIs, webhooks, and tooling that developers and partners use to connect with Alloy and build on top of our platform.

In this role, you will lead a team responsible for the systems and experiences that make Alloy easy to integrate with: our Events API, Outgoing Webhooks Service, partnership data feeds, external developer documentation, and the integrations that power Alloy's channel partner ecosystem. You will own the technical and strategic vision for how data flows in and out of Alloy at scale, and how external developers experience the platform - from first API call to production.

Alloy operates in a hybrid-work environment. We look to foster collaboration and community by having our local employees onsite three days a week.

What you'll be doing

The Engineering Manager's primary responsibility is their team. You will balance three key areas: recruiting and growing great engineers, supporting each person's development, and partnering with product and stakeholders to ship high-quality, high-impact work.

As the Engineering Manager, you will:

  • Lead, develop, and mentor a team of engineers through weekly 1:1s, career conversations, and hands-on technical guidance.
  • Own the roadmap and delivery for Alloy's developer-facing infrastructure - APIs, webhooks, data ingestion, and outbound data flows - ensuring reliability, scalability, and a great developer experience.
  • Partner closely with product, design, partnerships, and customer-facing teams to shape what gets built and why.
  • Drive technical strategy for the team's systems, including API design standards, event delivery guarantees, and integration patterns used by external developers.
  • Track and improve engineering health using DORA metrics and team-level KPIs; establish release and monitoring standards that keep quality high.
  • Recruit and hire strong engineers; own onboarding and ramp for new team members.
  • Communicate clearly across the organization - surface risks, resolve blockers, and keep stakeholders aligned on progress and trade-offs.
Who we're looking for

We are looking for an Engineering Manager who has built and led teams working on developer-facing products, APIs, or platform infrastructure. An ideal candidate has::

  • 8+ years in engineering with at least 3 years in an engineering leadership role.
  • A strong background in developer experience, API platform engineering, or developer tooling - you have shipped products that external developers integrate with and build on top of.
  • Deep familiarity with API design and HTTP/event-based integration patterns (REST, webhooks, async messaging); you can credibly lead technical discussions on API contract design, delivery guarantees, and integration reliability.
  • A track record of building and shipping high-quality systems at scale, with clear accountability for outcomes.
  • Technical fluency in modern backend stacks - strong with TypeScript/Node.js; comfortable reviewing code, debugging production issues, and contributing to architectural decisions.
  • Experience working with external partners or customers on integration work; you understand what makes a platform easy (or hard) to integrate with.
  • Experience leading sprint planning, goal-based project tracking, and cross-functional delivery.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to translate technical complexity for non-technical stakeholders and advocate for the team.
  • Experience recruiting, hiring, and onboarding engineers.
  • A servant-leader mindset - you lead by removing obstacles, pointing people in the right direction, and investing in the people around you.
  • Must be local to New York City and attend the office 3-4 days per week.

Nice to have:

  • Experience in high-growth product companies or startups.
  • Experience in fintech, financial services, or other regulated industries.

We're a lean team, so your impact will be felt immediately, and opportunities will grow as the company scales up. If this all sounds like a good fit for you, why not join us?
