Job description

#jobalert | DIRECT HIRE | SENIOR PROGRAM MANAGER | BIRMINGHAM, AL

A Southeast-based construction and manufacturing company is hiring a Senior Manager, Program to own full P&L and C-suite client relationships across one or more complex building programs. The company builds structures inside a large manufacturing facility and assembles them on site — delivering finished buildings in a fraction of traditional construction timelines — and is actively expanding into data centers, healthcare, and other mission-critical markets. This is not a project-oversight role; it's a program-ownership role with full accountability for financial outcomes, team structure, and client relationships. If you have 10+ years of complex project leadership at a respected AEC/EPC firm, a track record of running programs at scale, and you're energized by learning something genuinely new rather than doing the same thing you've always done, this is worth a conversation.

  • Anticipated $170,000–$220,000, based on experience
  • Full benefits package: health, dental, and vision insurance; 401(k); flexible spending accounts (FSA); PTO; short- and long-term disability; and life insurance
  • Support for professional licenses and certifications (PMP, ASHE CHC, LEED AP, and others)
  • Birmingham, AL — onsite at HQ at least 3 days/week (Atlanta or Nashville may be considered); up to 25% travel to active program sites

Overview

  • Own program P&L with explicit margin accountability across assigned programs — accountable for financial outcomes, not oversight only
  • Design, build, and right-size the program team; evaluate structure, right-sizing, and capability gaps
  • Develop and maintain C-suite-level client relationships, representing the company at the highest levels of client organizations
  • Contribute to strategic pipeline decisions — input on which programs and clients the company pursues based on capacity, margin potential, and strategic fit
  • Take direct control of programs in serious jeopardy — financial, schedule, or client-relationship crises — and drive them back to stable operation
  • Establish program-wide standards for schedule, financial reporting, procurement, and stakeholder communication
  • Present and defend Business Case Reviews to executive leadership
  • Lead, mentor, and develop a team of Program Managers and Project Managers; accountable for their performance, retention, and growth
  • Serve as the senior point of contact for C-suite client executives and the final escalation point for major disputes, claims, and client issues
  • Champion safety and quality culture and consistent execution of company standards across all assigned programs

Preferred Skills / Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, Data Analytics, or related field
  • Master's degree (MBA, Data Analytics, Construction Management) and professional certification (PMP, ASHE CHC, LEED AP) beneficial
  • 10+ years of relevant experience, including P&L accountability for one or more programs totaling $100M+ in actively managed contract revenue
  • Demonstrated C-suite-level client relationships during program delivery and crisis management
  • Proven ability to build, restructure, and right-size a program team
  • Track record presenting and defending Business Case Reviews to executive leadership
  • Expert negotiator able to lead contract strategy, claims, and dispute resolution
  • Advanced scheduling proficiency across MS Project, Primavera P6, and Smartsheet; advanced Excel for program-level financial analysis
  • Genuine drive to implement and leverage technology across program workflows (KPI dashboards, ERP/data reporting, and AI tools)
  • Experience in modular construction or design-build; complex-project experience in Healthcare, EPC, or Mission Critical / Data Center

KEYWORDS: senior program manager, program manager, program management, portfolio, P&L, margin accountability, construction, modular construction, prefabrication, industrialized construction, design-build, AEC, EPC, healthcare construction, data center, mission critical, business case review, C-suite client relationships, team leadership, Primavera P6, MS Project, Smartsheet, Bluebeam, claims management, contract strategy, PMP, LEED AP, ASHE
