About Clydesdale Equipment Rentals

This position is with Clydesdale Equipment Rentals, one of the affiliate companies within the Louth Callan family of companies.

Clydesdale Equipment Rentals provides heavy equipment rental solutions to construction, infrastructure, and industrial customers. We are building a high-performing operations platform focused on fleet reliability, utilization, safety, and responsive service. This role is central to running day-to-day operations and managing the heavy equipment fleet with the discipline and standards expected at larger national and regional rental companies.

Role Overview

The Operations Manager is responsible for the day-to-day running of Clydesdale’s heavy equipment rental operations and full fleet management. This includes yard operations, equipment readiness, maintenance coordination, utilization, dispatch support, safety, and team leadership.

We are looking for someone who has operated inside a larger equipment rental company and brings proven systems, processes, and operational rigor. You will bring that experience to build and run disciplined daily operations, protect asset value, maximize fleet availability, and deliver reliable service to customers.

Key Responsibilities

Day-to-Day Operations

• Own daily yard and branch operations including equipment check-in/check-out, staging, inspection, and readiness for rental.

• Coordinate with sales, dispatch, and customers to ensure equipment is available, clean, safe, and delivered/picked up on time.

• Manage daily workflows, labor allocation, and priorities to keep the yard efficient and responsive.

• Maintain accurate equipment status, location tracking, and operational records.

Fleet Management & Maintenance

• Own overall fleet health, availability, and utilization of heavy equipment assets.

• Develop and enforce preventive maintenance schedules, inspection programs, and repair prioritization.

• Coordinate internal technicians and external vendors for repairs, rebuilds, and major services.

• Track downtime, repair costs, and asset condition; make recommendations on repair-vs-replace and fleet composition.

• Ensure equipment meets safety, emissions, and readiness standards before every rental.

Utilization, Inventory & Asset Control

• Drive fleet utilization and minimize idle time through proactive coordination with sales and operations.

• Maintain accurate inventory of equipment, attachments, and critical parts.

• Support decisions on fleet acquisition, disposition, and redeployment based on demand and performance data.

• Protect company assets through proper storage, security, and damage accountability processes.

Safety, Compliance & Quality

• Champion a strong safety culture in the yard and on jobsites related to equipment handling and transport.

• Ensure compliance with OSHA, DOT (where applicable), manufacturer guidelines, and company safety standards.

• Investigate incidents, near-misses, and equipment-related issues; implement corrective actions.

• Maintain high standards for equipment cleanliness, presentation, and customer-ready condition.

Team Leadership & Continuous Improvement

• Lead, train, and hold accountable yard staff, technicians, and operational team members.

• Establish clear daily/weekly operating rhythms, KPIs, and performance expectations.

• Bring best practices from larger rental organizations and adapt them to Clydesdale’s size and growth stage.

• Identify process gaps and implement practical improvements in dispatch flow, maintenance tracking, and customer handoff.

*The Key Job Responsibilities described are not a comprehensive list. Additional duties may be assigned as business needs evolve, and the scope of the position may change accordingly

Requirements:
