Job description

Overview

The Pictsweet Company is growing! Family owned and operated for 75 years, Pictsweet is a frozen vegetable producer with agricultural roots. We are seeking a Production Supervisor to join our vegetable processing facilitiy in Bridgeville, DE. The Supervisor is responsible for all production employees while on duty. The individual is to ensure that all HACCP, SOP, and regulatory procedures are followed for the production of safe and wholesome foods.

Responsibilities
  • Responsible for operational management for shift, including but not limited to production lines, freezers, product receiving, and yard activities.  Ensures proper start-up, processing, shutdown and clean up.
  • Delegate assignments, monitor performance, coach employees, take corrective actions, and effectively recommend the hiring or termination of personnel.
  • Monitor production line and work areas. Ensure that work areas and production equipment are inspected and are in proper operating condition.
  • Responsible to coordinate with management to ensure timely and appropriate staffing levels are maintained.
  • Assign work tasks, train, evaluate and correct performance of assigned personnel.
  • Responsible to resolve problems and coordinate resources (equipment, personnel, materials, or product).
  • Monitor and evaluate production performance to ensure performance standards are met.
  • Coordinate and consult with Quality Assurance to ensure product meets quality standards.
  • Determine adjustments to product, manpower, and equipment resources.
  • Provide administrative oversight of the "Inform" and "Time and Attendance" systems. Approve work schedules.
  • Ensure appropriate production records are maintained.
  • Communicate frequently with management regarding production. Anticipate and resolve problems.
  • Maintain positive employee relations.
  • Responsible for compliance with company policies and procedures, including but not limited to; Food Safety, Worker Safety, Quality Standards, Personnel Policies, and Emergency Action Plan.
  • Membership on the Emergency Response Team required.
  • During the off season this person will work on day shift performing maintenance duties and other tasks as assigned.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications

Education:

  • Four-year college degree in management, business, science, organizational behavior, psychology or related fields.
  • Five years of appropriate supervisory experience in a processing or manufacturing setting may be substituted for a degree.

 

Experience:

  • Two years experience as a supervisor in a manufacturing or a food processing environment required.
  • Experience with regulatory agencies and standards (FDA, BRC, OSHA, etc.) is a plus.

Special Skills: 

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to manage in a fast paced environment.
  • Must be able to conduct safety meetings.
  • Must be flexible to work day or night shift as needed.
  • Must be willing to work extended hours as needed (this includes weekends and holidays).
  • Must be willing to work 6 days per week during the processing season.  Occasionally, must be willing to work 7 days per week.  During the off season, this person will work 5 days a week on day shift.

Physical Environment Factors:

  • This position will work in a plant environment.  Occasionally, this position will be required to work in a refrigerated environment or freezer.
