Job description

The ServiceNowSoftware Asset Management (SAM)Pro Technology Expert is responsible for the configuration, governance, and ongoing optimization of the ServiceNowSAM Proplatform. This role ensures that all module configurations, data models, and underlying tables accurately represent software inventory, entitlements, and consumption to enable audit-defensiblesoftwarecompliance positions and actionable insights.

This individual will serve as the technical authority for SAM Pro configuration and data integrity, ensuring that all ingested data sources are normalized, reconciled, and aligned to enterprise standards.

Key Responsibilities

1. SAM Pro Platform Configuration & Administration

  • Configure maintain, and enhanceServiceNow SAM Pro modules, including:

  • Software models, license metrics, and entitlement mappings

  • Reconciliation rules and normalization processes

  • Custom allocations and consumption rules

  • Optimize SAM Pro functionality to support publisher-specific requirements (e.g., IBM sub-capacity, SaaS, and user-based licensing)

2.SAMData Ingestion, Transformation & Governance

  • Own end-to-end data lifecycle across SAM Pro data domains, including(and not limited to):

  • Entitlements (contracts, licenses)

  • Installations, usage, and configuration data

  • Design and manage ingestion pipelines

  • Establish and maintain data models supporting license compliance and reporting

  • Define and enforce data quality controls (completeness, accuracy, timeliness)

3.SAMData Model & Table Management

  • Maintain and optimize core ServiceNow SAM Pro tables, including:

  • Software Entitlements and Contracts

  • Software Models and Catalog

  • User, Device, and Subscription records

  • Ensure proper relationships between configuration items (CIs), assets, and SAM records to prevent data fragmentation or audit exposure

4.SoftwareLicense Compliance & Reconciliation Enablement

  • Configure and support reconciliation engine processes to produce accurate Effective License Positions (ELPs)

  • Ensure mapping between entitlements, installations, and usage data is complete and audit-defensible

  • Identify and remediate data or configuration gaps impacting compliance posture or optimization opportunities

5. Integration & Cross-Platform Collaboration

  • Partner withServiceNow Platform,CMDB, Security, and Procurement teams to align data sources and governance models

  • Ensure seamless integration between SAM Pro and upstream/downstream systems (e.g., discovery tools,Oracle Contract Management, SaaS platforms)

6. Continuous Improvement & SAM Maturity

  • Drive enhancements to SAM Pro processes, automation, and data quality frameworks

  • Maintain awareness of ServiceNow platform capabilities, SAM Pro feature updates, and industry best practices

Required Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in Software Asset Management (SAM) or IT Asset Management (ITAM)

  • Deep expertise inServiceNow SAM Pro configuration, including:

  • Software normalization and reconciliation

  • Entitlement management and license modeling

  • Data ingestion and transformation processes

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supporting major publisher licensing models (e.g., IBM, Microsoft, Oracle, Adobe)

  • Experience with SAM managed services environments and vendor coordination

  • Certifications:

  • ServiceNow SAM Pro

  • ITIL / ITAM / IAITAM
