Job description

Job Title: Software Vision Engineer

Job Description

This role focuses on designing, developing, testing, and deploying machine vision software used for inspection, alignment, measurement, identification, and defect detection in automated manufacturing environments. You will build and optimize image processing and machine vision algorithms in C++ using industry-standard libraries such as OpenCV, and integrate cameras, lenses, lighting, lasers, and other vision hardware into complex automation platforms. You will act as a key technical contributor and leader on vision-focused projects, collaborating closely with software, mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing engineering teams while driving continuous improvement of deployed systems.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and deploy machine vision software for inspection, alignment, measurement, identification, and defect detection applications in automated equipment.
  • Implement, optimize, and maintain image processing and machine vision algorithms using C++ and vision libraries such as OpenCV.
  • Integrate industrial cameras, lenses, lighting systems, lasers, and other vision hardware into automated platforms, ensuring reliable performance and robustness.
  • Perform camera and vision system calibration, including alignment and tuning of optics, lighting, and imaging parameters.
  • Test and validate complete vision systems, including software, hardware, and integration with automation equipment.
  • Troubleshoot and support deployed vision systems in manufacturing environments, including root cause analysis and corrective actions for production issues.
  • Drive continuous improvement of existing vision solutions by analyzing performance, identifying bottlenecks, and implementing enhancements.
  • Collaborate closely with software, mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing engineering teams to define requirements, develop solutions, and ensure seamless system integration.
  • Provide technical leadership on vision-focused projects, taking ownership of design decisions, implementation quality, and delivery timelines.
  • Mentor junior engineers by reviewing code, sharing best practices, and guiding them through vision system development and troubleshooting.
  • Use version control tools such as Git to manage source code, support collaborative development, and maintain high-quality software practices.
  • Contribute to both new product development and ongoing production support for highly technical automation and inspection systems.

Essential Skills

  • 5+ years of hands-on machine vision or image processing experience, including development and deployment of solutions for inspection, alignment, defect detection, measurement, and automated manufacturing applications.
  • Strong C++ software development experience, including building and deploying complete applications used in production environments.
  • Practical experience with OpenCV or similar machine vision and image processing libraries.
  • Proficiency in implementing image processing techniques such as edge detection, segmentation, pattern matching, object detection, and alignment algorithms.
  • Experience integrating cameras, lenses, lighting, calibration tools, and other vision hardware into automated equipment.
  • Experience supporting manufacturing, automation, robotics, or inspection equipment in a production setting.
  • Ability to independently lead technical workstreams, take ownership of vision solutions, and drive projects to completion.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot complex production issues and perform root cause analysis for vision-related problems.
  • Strong collaboration skills with multidisciplinary teams, including software, mechanical, electrical, and manufacturing engineers.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or a related technical field.
