Job description

Summary
The Director of Transportation is a member of the PlayCore Corporate Operations team and is responsible for developing, implementing, and overseeing all aspects of PlayCore's inbound, internal and outbound transportation services. This position will develop the long-term transportation strategy, ensure improvements to cost and customer experience, assist all brands (locations) in negotiating freight and transportation contracts, identify and report key metrics and assist with developing enterprise-wide solutions for PlayCore's growing footprint. This position is based in Chattanooga, TN.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Promotes the Company's mission and values-based culture through all forms of communication and interaction with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Provide guidance and subject matter expertise to transportation professionals across PlayCore businesses to support transportation excellence, cost optimization, and service improvements.
  • Interact with site level peers from Manufacturing, Purchasing, Legal, and Finance in the development of PlayCore's transportation strategies and best practices which support the changing needs of the individual businesses.
  • Develop and facilitate regular metrics reporting structure and cadence with meaningful and measurable actions to drive improvements to cost and the overall customer experience.
  • Own and manage all decisions regarding current and potential third-party vendors of transportation software, TMS and other transportation services.
  • Optimize international inbound freight solutions and pursue common approaches to international freight for applicable businesses.
  • Integrate acquired companies for cost savings and network optimization.
  • Key contributor to annual business planning, expense, and budgeting processes. Monitor progress monthly and revise accordingly to support corporate financial and customer service requirements and guidelines.
  • Other duties as assigned by manager.

Education and/or Experience
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in Logistics, Transportation or related field.
  • 5+ years of experience in a Transportation / Freight management capacity.
  • Previous management experience.
  • Travel 30% - typically restricted to North America. Travel will be heavy during onboarding period.
