Director of Software Delivery ExcellencePURPOSE:

Operating in our unique Dynamic Shared Ownership model, the Director of Software Excellence is responsible for elevating the software organization’s agile planning and execution capability across global development teams. This leader manages software leads and scrum masters as a functional team within a matrixed organization. This is a hands‑on role responsible for improving the predictability, quality, execution of software delivery across a global medical device software organization. This leader will build a Delivery Excellence capability – not a traditional PMO – focused on coaching engineering leaders, software leads, and scrum masters, establishing common planning practices, improving estimation, delivery metrics, capacity planning, and organizational execution while cultivating a continuous improvement culture. If you are seeking a once‑in‑a‑lifetime opportunity to lead a unique cultural and delivery transformation, then this is the role for you. The preferred location for this role is Indianola, PA, however, other global Bayer Radiology sites will be considered based on the needs of the business. A residence‑based working arrangement will not be accommodated for this role (must be based at a Bayer Radiology site).

YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:VACC Leadership:

Act as a VACC leader. Be a role model for embracing and actively championing the DSO operating model and behaviors.

Build Delivery Capability:
  • Lead and develop our software leads and scrum masters;
  • Coach the team to become exceptional delivery leaders, facilitators, and execution coaches;
  • Develop competency models, career paths, and onboarding programs where needed;
  • Build Communities of Practice for software leads and scrum masters while improving connection and community with project development leads (PDL’s).
Improves Ways of Working:
  • Lead agile and software delivery transformation across the organization;
  • Introduce lean, agile best practices that improve flow and predictability of our software delivery;
  • Improve and standardize estimation, release planning, dependency management, capacity planning, and backlog management while allowing appropriate product team autonomy;
  • Drive continuous improvement culture of people, product, and process through example, coaching, and organizational learning.
Create Delivery Transparency:
  • Define and implement leading indicators for delivery and quality health;
  • Develop team dashboards that provide actionable insights into software organization for product work teams;
  • Improve forecasting accuracy and portfolio visibility;
  • Using delivery metrics to identify systematic organizational issues.
Successfully Influence Across the Product Delivery Organization:
  • Partner with engineering managers, product delivery leads, product technical leads, systems engineering, hardware, software architecture, quality and regulatory to influence change while helping to deliver latest SaMD and SiMD applications;
  • Utilize these partnerships to help influence systematic improvements that reduce organizational friction and improve execution;
  • Help establish a common planning rhythm across software development.
What This Role is Not
  • Does not directly manage software projects;
  • Does not own product delivery schedules;
  • Is not a traditional PMO.
WHO YOU ARE:REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in computer science or similar;
  • Significant and relevant experience leading software development teams and deliveries;
  • Must have demonstrable experience successfully leading significant agile transformation and improvement initiatives;
  • Strong understanding of Agile, Scrum, Lean, DevOps, metrics, and estimation techniques and relevant experience with SAFe, CMMi or similar;
  • Expertise delivering software in a highly regulated Medical Device, SaMD, SiMD, or similar environment;
  • Strong data analytical and statistical skills;
  • Demonstrable experience defining and utilizing metrics to successfully drive organizational improvement;
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills up, down, and across the organization;
  • Domain & Business Acumen: Thorough understanding of the development process for medical device software with experience operating in matrixed reporting structure;
  • Leadership & Execution: Strong leadership skills with the ability to build high‑performing teams with a relentless focus on execution and target achievement. Extensive experience managing global teams in a complex product delivery model.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master’s Degree or MBA;
  • Minimum 10 years of experience leading software development teams and deliveries;
  • PMP, SAFe or similar certification strongly desired;
  • Strong understanding of Agile, Scrum, Lean, DevOps, metrics, and estimation techniques with at least 3 years of experience with SAFe, CMMi or similar;
  • Minimum 3 years of experience delivering software in a highly regulated Medical Device, SaMD, SiMD, or similar environment;
  • Six Sigma certification highly desired;
  • Talent Management: Minimum 3 years leading people, including hiring, coaching, and performance management preferred;

Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $151,120 - $226,680. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant).
