Job description

About the Opportunity:

A well-established, privately held real estate investment, development, and operations company is seeking a Senior Manager of Insurance & Risk to serve as the in-house leader for its insurance and risk management function. This is a hands-on, high-visibility role within a complex, multi-vertical portfolio spanning luxury retail, hospitality, residential, mixed-use development, and corporate operations.

The ideal candidate is a seasoned insurance professional who can operate both strategically and tactically, managing broker and carrier relationships, owning program placement and renewals, handling claims, and advising executive leadership on risk exposure and cost. The company values someone who brings a collaborative, solutions-oriented approach and who is comfortable engaging with ownership-level stakeholders.

What You'll Do:

Insurance Program Leadership

  • Design, place, and administer insurance programs across commercial real estate, hospitality, retail, construction/development, and corporate verticals
  • Manage the full renewal cycle, including underwriting data gathering, broker coordination, policy review, and binding
  • Identify coverage gaps and provide competitive pricing analyses for executive and ownership review
  • Control insurance costs, support annual premium budgeting, and allocate premiums by asset
  • Monitor insurance market trends and emerging products relevant to the portfolio

Real Estate & Construction Risk

  • Manage property & casualty programs including Property, Liability, Workers Compensation, Business Auto, Builders Risk, OCIP, Cyber, D&O, EPLI, Fiduciary, Crime, Inland Marine, and Active Assailant coverage
  • Oversee insurance requirements for development projects, including contractor exhibits, specialty coverages, and lender covenants
  • Support M&A activities including restructuring insurance programs during ownership transitions

Claims & Risk Operations

  • Serve as primary point of contact for first-party property and auto claims, coordinating with brokers, carriers, adjusters, and internal stakeholders from submission through resolution
  • Administer risk management systems (Evident, Yardi, Indio) and carrier portals for submissions, compliance, and reporting
  • Support safety initiatives, crisis planning, and loss-reduction recommendations based on claim trends

Contractual Risk Transfer & Compliance

  • Review contracts for insurance compliance across all business verticals and draft insurance language, specialty endorsements, and indemnification provisions
  • Manage certificates of insurance (COIs) for tenants, vendors, contractors, and marketing/event partners
  • Collaborate closely with Legal to ensure cohesive risk management and mitigation across all company assets

Executive & HNW Personal Lines

  • Administer personal insurance programs for executives and ownership, including high-value homes, personal umbrella, luxury vehicles, aircraft, marine/watercraft, and valuable articles

Qualifications:

  • 4+ years of experience in insurance, risk management, brokerage, or underwriting
  • Strong P&C knowledge including Property, Liability, Workers Comp, Business Auto, Builders Risk, OCIP, Cyber, and D&O
  • Experience managing or placing programs for real estate, hospitality, or construction portfolios
