We are seeking an experienced Substation Electrical Engineering Manager to join our highly skilled and rapidly growing team to oversee the delivery of complex substation projects within our portfolio in Western Canada. In this leadership role, you will manage a diverse team of Electrical Engineers and Designers and drive technical excellence and successful execution of substation related engineering activities from project conception to completion.

Your role

  • Team Leadership: Provide leadership and management of a team of Electrical Engineers and Designers, including work assignments and coordination, team mentoring and training, and resource development and management.
  • Technical Leadership: Provide technical leadership and supervision to the team on electrical substation design and engineering. Plan, organize, schedule and direct engineering activities for substation projects to ensure safe, efficient engineered solutions that comply with regulatory code requirements, utility standards, safety and quality standards, and industry best practices.
  • Client Collaboration: Develop and maintain strong client relationship and lead technical coordination and collaboration with key client representatives.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work closely with other multi-disciplinary teams and other Business Units to align planning and delivery of High Voltage (HV) substation projects.
  • Project Delivery Support: Monitor project progress and ensure engineering deliverables are prepared, reviewed and completed within budget, schedule, scope and quality standards.
  • Business Development Support: Understand market trends and clients' needs, identify new business opportunities and support business development activities. Provide technical input and prepare estimated engineering labor hours for proposals.

About you

  • Education: A four-year undergraduate degree in Electrical Engineering from a recognized University is required. Graduate (Masters) degree in Electrical Engineering is an asset.
  • Licensing: Registration as a Professional Engineer (P.Eng.) in British Columbia or Alberta is required.
  • Experience: Minimum 12 years of North American experience in Medium and High Voltage Substation design and engineering for greenfield and brownfield projects.
  • Knowledge: Excellent working knowledge of substation design and engineering standards (including CSA, IEEE, IEC, and standards from major North American utilities), engineering processes for project execution, Project Management principles, tendering and contract management.
  • Skills: Excellent skills in verbal and written communication, technical problem-solving, critical thinking and decision making, and strategic planning and budgeting.

Additional information

Expected compensation for this role is between $125,000 - $171,900 annually. Base salaries are determined according to several parameters like skills, experience, and potential impact on the role. Internal and external competitiveness are also taken into account in our offers.
