Job description

We offer a flexible working policy that supports a healthy balance between personal and professional well-being. This role requires in-office presence on Tuesdays & Thursdays to collaborate, connect, and learn from peers - while also maintaining the flexibility for meaningful work-life balance.

Being a Senior Manager of Engineering at iManage Means…

You will lead a high-performing engineering team responsible for supporting the cloud-scale document management platform iManage builds for the legal industry, serving both law firms and corporate legal departments. You will balance hands-on technical leadership with people management, while shaping how your team adopts AI to write better code faster. You'll also be a key technical voice for the community of 250+ technology partners that integrate with iManage, understanding their demands on the iManage Cloud platform and co-building solutions with them. This role requires someone who thrives in building engineering best practices, mentoring a diverse team through growth and out of capability gaps, and championing a culture where critical thinking, agility, and AI-first thinking are core to how we work.

iM Responsible For…
  • Leading People and Building Culture
    • Building and leading a high-performing engineering team of 4 to 5 engineers across different seniority levels where people feel comfortable taking risks, trying new approaches, and learning through it
    • Developing your team through regular 1-on-1s, coaching, hiring for growth, and feedback that matters; having honest conversations when someone's struggling and working together on the path forward
    • Practicing and championing AI-native development, modeling how you use AI day-to-day to write, test, and debug code, and helping engineers treat AI as a core part of how the team thinks and builds, not a bolt-on to existing habits
    • Building a team where feedback flows both ways and happens regularly, not just in review cycles; helping people understand when to adjust course
    • Staying current with industry trends, emerging technical practices, and how our people are evolving; bringing this learning back to elevate the whole team
  • Technical Leadership and Architecture
    • Driving the engineering architecture for a cloud-scale SaaS platform for legal document management, making decisions that hold up in production
    • Interacting with iManage's ecosystem of 250+ technology partners, understanding and addressing their demands on the iManage Cloud platform
    • Co-building solutions with partners, especially in the AI domain, to extend what the platform can do for our shared customers
    • Owning technical decisions that balance business needs, team capabilities, and long-term sustainability of the platform; explaining tradeoffs in terms of cost, quality, performance, and team readiness
    • Being hands-on when it matters most; diving into architectural discussions, code reviews for critical decisions, design documents, and complex problems
    • Driving adoption of engineering best practices including CI/CD, testing strategies, code review discipline, design documentation, and observability
  • Partnership and Execution
    • Collaborating with product, engineering leadership, and ecosystem partners to understand technical requirements and surface where partnership becomes competitive advantage
    • Translating business priorities and roadmap into technical plans with clear milestones, dependencies, and risk mitigation; driving toward those plans with accountability and agility
    • Communicating technical progress, blockers, and decisions clearly to both technical and business stakeholders; presenting options and trade-offs so others can make informed choices
    • Building cross-team alignment on shared technical problems; developing engineers who can work across team boundaries
iM Qualified Because I Have…
  • 8+ years building software or services at scale, with 3+ years leading a team of engineers in a hands-on technical manager role
  • Deep technical expertise in backend systems, distributed architecture, or related areas; comfortable with current technology stack (Java, Docker, Kubernetes, etc.); and a track record of making pragmatic technical decisions under uncertainty
  • Experience architecting or operating a cloud-scale SaaS platform in a regulated or high-trust domain (legal, financial services, healthcare, or similar) serving enterprise customers where production quality carries real consequences
  • Hands-on practice with AI-native development, using AI coding tools and workflows daily, not just shipping AI-powered features, and the ability to model and teach that practice to your team
  • Experience working with a broad technology-partner or ISV ecosystem: evaluating partner requirements, setting technical guardrails for a cloud platform, and turning partner feedback into roadmap input
  • Demonstrated success developing and mentoring engineers at different stages of their career
  • Strong communication skills, including being able to explain complex technical decisions in simple terms, giving candid feedback that people hear and act on, and adjusting my communication style based on your audience
  • Demonstrated agility; pivoted based on new information, helped my team adapt to organizational changes, and stayed curious through it
  • A growth mindset and hunger for learning, especially around AI practices in software development

Don't meet every qualification listed above? Studies show that women and people of color are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet all qualifications. At iManage, we are committed to building a diverse and inclusive environment, and encourage everyone to show up as their full authentic selves. We welcome those that come with a growth mindset and a hunger for learning; so, if you are excited about this role but your past experience doesn't align perfectly with every qualification we encourage you to apply anyways!

iM Getting To…

  • Have flexible work hours that allow me to balance my ‘me time’ with my work commitments.
  • Collaborate in a modern open plan workspace, with a gaming area, free snacks, drinks and regular social events.
  • Focus on impactful work, solving complex, real challenges utilizing the latest technologies and protocols.

  • Creating an inclusive environment where I can help shape the culture not just by fitting in, but by adding to it.
  • Providing a market competitive salary that is applied through a consistent process, equitable for all our employees, and regularly reviewed based on industry data.
  • Rewarding me with an annual performance-based bonus.
  • Offering comprehensive Health/Vision/Dental/Life Insurance, and a 401k Retirement Savings Plan with a company match up to 4%.
  • Giving access to HealthJoy, a healthcare concierge service, to help me maximize my health benefits.
  • Granting enhanced leave for expecting parents; 20 weeks 100% paid for primary leave, and 10 weeks 100% paid for secondary leave.
  • Providing me with a flexible time off policy to take the time off that I need. Be it for vacation, volunteering, celebrating holidays, spending time with family, or simply taking time to recharge and reset.
  • Caring for my mental health and well-being with multiple company wellness days and free access to the Healthy Minds app for mindfulness, meditation and more.

The overall US annual base salary range for this position is $160,000–$230,000.
