Job description

Austin, United States | Posted on 08/28/2026

Compensation: $180,000โ€“$200,000 annually

Work Location: In Person

Employment Type: Full-Time

Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Head of Finance & Accounting to lead and strengthen our accounting and finance function.

This is a hands-on leadership role . While this individual will ultimately play an important role in financial strategy, forecasting, planning, and supporting organizational growth, the immediate priority is building and maintaining a strong accounting foundation.

The right person must be comfortable rolling up their sleeves and working directly in the accounting function . This is not a position focused solely on reviewing the work of others or managing from a high level. There is a significant accounting workload, and this leader will be expected to work in the details while also developing the team, processes, and infrastructure needed to scale.

Key Responsibilities

Lead and actively participate in the full-cycle accounting function , including general ledger activity, journal entries, reconciliations, month-end close, and financial statement preparation.

Own and improve month-end, quarter-end, and year-end close processes , ensuring timely and accurate reporting.

Ensure compliance with applicable accounting standards, including GAAP and ASC 606 , with knowledge of IFRS/IAS strongly valued.

Prepare, review, and analyze financial statements, balance sheets, P&L statements, cash flow reporting, and other financial reports.

Lead external audits and maintain strong accounting controls, documentation, and compliance practices.

Oversee accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash management, cost controls, and other day-to-day accounting activities.

Identify opportunities to improve accounting processes, systems, controls, and reporting.

Lead, mentor, and develop accounting and finance team members while remaining actively involved in the work.

Drive budgeting, forecasting, cash flow planning, and financial analysis.

Partner with leadership to provide meaningful financial insights and support business decision-making.

As the accounting function matures, take increasing ownership of strategic finance, long-range planning, risk management, treasury, and growth initiatives .

What We're Looking For

We are looking for someone who combines the technical strength of a Controller/accounting leader with the ability to grow into the broader strategic responsibilities of a Head of Finance .

You should enjoy getting into the details, solving accounting problems, creating structure, and making sure the numbers are right. Simultaneously, you should be capable of stepping back from the accounting function and using that financial information to help leadership make better business decisions.

If you are a finance and accounting leader who is equally comfortable doing the work, leading the team, and building for the future , we would love to hear from you.

Requirements

Significant experience in accounting and finance leadership , such as Controller, Director of Accounting, Head of Accounting/Finance, or a similar senior-level role.

Strong hands-on accounting background with the ability and willingness to personally execute accounting work when needed.

Deep understanding of GAAP, financial reporting, general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and month-end close .

Experience with revenue recognition, including ASC 606 .

Demonstrated experience preparing and analyzing financial statements.

Experience leading external audits and maintaining strong internal controls.

Strong budgeting, forecasting, cash flow, and financial analysis experience.

Experience leading and developing accounting/finance teams.

Strong ERP/accounting systems experience and the ability to improve processes and reporting.

Ability to move comfortably between detailed accounting execution and senior-level financial leadership .

Excellent analytical, organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills.

Preferred

Experience working within a multi-entity or operationally complex organization .

Knowledge of IFRS and/or IAS .

Governmental or non-profit accounting experience.

Experience improving or building accounting processes, systems, controls, or finance infrastructure.
