Job description

The Information Technology Division at the New York City Council provides hardware and software support for all central staff and Council Member's staff located at City Hall and within the five boroughs of New York City. Information Technology also oversees and manages all aspects of computer operations, including network systems administration, network security, helpdesk support and overall maintenance of Council's Local Area (LAN) and Wide Area (WAN) Networks.
We are seeking an experienced Senior Security Operations Engineer to work with the team in the Information Technology Division.
SALARY RANGE:
$130,000 to $150,000
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Council liaison to the New York City Cyber Command.
  • Establish and maintain efficient standards and policies governing computer networks.
  • Make suitable recommendations regarding software and hardware needs.
  • Diagnose and resolve hardware, software and communications issues in an efficient manner.
  • Develop appropriate and effective procedures for network operation.
  • Plan required upgrades to network servers, PC, and other network equipment.
  • Ensure security safeguards are implemented throughout the computer network.
  • Confer with end-users to identify computer needs and provide complete solutions.
  • Attend computer seminars to identify new technology that could be implemented at Council.
  • Perform other duties, as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Master's degree in Cybersecurity preferred.
  • Any combination of experience and education which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered.
  • Five years of progressively responsible experience with network systems, telecommunication systems and data management.
  • Certification and/or experience working in an ITIL or IT Service Management environment preferred.
  • Current certification for cyber security (CISSP) preferred.
  • Current Cisco and Microsoft certifications are highly desirable but not required.
  • Problem solving, and responsive customer service is required.
  • Demonstrated skill in working effectively with people of all technical levels.
  • Strong conflict resolution skills, collaborative problem solving, and responsive custom service is required.
  • Availability to work outside of normal business hours, including evenings and weekends, as needed to support emergency response, critical system outages, maintenance activities, or other business continuity requirements.
