HR Intern
Kenneth Young Center is a 501(c)(3) not-for-profit dedicated to providing comprehensive outpatient behavioral health services to individuals of all walks of life. Located in the Northwest suburbs of Chicago, we offer a wide range of services including outpatient therapeutic care, recovery-oriented support, community prevention, LGBTQ+ outreach, older adult services, and crisis intervention. Our team welcomes and celebrates unique perspectives and represents the diversity and vitality of our local communities. Internship Description: Interns will actively contribute to the daily administration of a community based, guest driven Drop-In Center that offers recovery focused support, advocacy, leisure, and enrichment activities to persons living with mental illnesses and disabilities who desire to engage fully in community life. Interns provide and coordinate a range of activities aimed at engaging and motivating guests living independently in the Northwest Suburbs. Interns will assist Drop-In staff in running and supporting group activities, learn relevant community resources to share and refer with guests, engage and motivate guests, and other tasks assigned.
Primary Responsibilities:
  • HR Operations amp; Project Coordination
    • Support the organization and tracking of HR projects and initiatives
    • Assist in documenting and organizing HR processes and workflows (SOPs)
    • Help identify opportunities to improve efficiency in manual or inconsistent processes
    • Track progress on key HR activities and follow up with team members as needed
    • Assist in creating and maintaining trackers, dashboards, and reporting tools
    • Provide coordination support across HR functions to ensure alignment and follow-through
  • Onboarding amp; Orientation Support
    • Assist with orientation day setup and preparation
    • Assemble onboarding materials and new-hire packets
    • Collect, organize, and process onboarding documentation
    • Coordinate with internal teams to prepare materials, supplies, and schedules
    • Help ensure a smooth and welcoming onboarding experience for new hires
  • Recruiting Operations amp; ATS Management
    • Perform Applicant Tracking System (ATS) tasks, including:
    • Assigning phone screen questionnaires and interview materials
    • Managing templates and candidate communications
    • Creating and updating job postings and templates
    • Support candidate scheduling and communication
    • Assist with maintaining accurate candidate data and tracking
  • Talent Acquisition Support
    • Assist with career fairs and hiring events
    • Support outreach efforts and maintain recruiting contact lists
    • Participate in intake meetings by capturing notes and follow-ups
    • Assist with tracking candidate progress, offers, and reference checks
    • Help develop content for employer branding (LinkedIn, internal platforms)
  • HR Administration amp; Compliance
    • i. Maintain employee files and ensure accurate documentation
    • ii. Assist with audits and compliance-related tracking
    • iii. Update HR trackers, logs, and reporting tools
    • iv. Support preparation of standard HR documents and communications
    • v. Assist with general HR administrative and organizational needs
  • Employee Engagement amp; Additional Responsibilities
    • i. Support planning and coordination of employee engagement initiatives
    • ii. Assist with logistics for events, recognition programs, and trainings
    • iii. Help gather and organize employee feedback (administrative support)
    • iv. Assist with additional responsibilities as assigned
  • Experience amp; Skill Development:
    • Exposure to both HR operations and full-cycle recruiting
    • Hands-on experience with HR systems, workflows, and process improvement
    • Development of project coordination and organizational skills
    • Experience supporting a mission-driven organization
    • Mentorship from HR and Talent Acquisition professionals
  • Travel Requirements

    • ​While performing the duties of this position, the employee may need to travel by automobile between sites, as well as to attend job fairs and events throughout the community

Time Frame: Semester-long, Part-time. Can be flexible to meet intern needs.
