Job Summary:

The primary responsibility of the Business Development Director is to lead the business development efforts for new customers. This role emphasizes aggressively establishing new relationships, generating revenue growth, and maximizing enterprise profitability. The Business Development Director is responsible for developing and executing action plans that will lead to successfully closing new deals. The Business Development Director is responsible for self-identifying and developing new business opportunities as well as progressing new business leads that are generated by centralized lead generation efforts. They are responsible for coordinating all information, activities & internal resources to support moving an opportunity through the sales process. They establish credibility with their customers by developing a deep understanding of their business issues and subsequently presenting solutions that meet or exceed their customers expectation while delivering business value to Cowan. The Business Development Director guides cross-functional and multi-level teams to develop solutions to potential prospects, including collaborating and introducing the prospects to other Cowan service offerings. The Business Development Director will know the mission, policies, & structure of the organization to bring resources and efficacy to the sales cycle.

Job Duties:

  • Develop, identify, and qualify new business opportunities through strategic prospecting and planning.
  • Ensure the prospect is financially solvent and will be a long-term viable customer based on credit performance, working to hold to our approved credit terms.
  • Follow up on lead generation in a timely manner with weekly face to face sales calls.
  • Coordinate development of client solutions with Commercial and Operations leaders
  • Develop, write, and present the value proposition for Cowan services to potential new business customers.
  • Prepare and lead contract negotiations for new business.
  • Coordinate with the business implementation team for implementation of the client solution.
  • Validate the deal, ensuring that all details of the accessorial, and required executional requirements are within pricing standards and can be executed appropriately,
  • Manage the ongoing interactions of the business to ensure realization of solutions as presented and won with client to include receivables, monitoring performance during start-up period.
  • Ensure timely and accurate account management with our Customer Service team.

Job Requirements & Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree
  • 5 years of truckload sales experience
  • TMS experience desired. TMW preferred
  • Excellent customer service, problem solving, and decision making skills
  • Ability to develop a working knowledge of all terminal operation aspects
  • Travel may be required as dictated by the customer/business
  • Frequently required to sit, stand, walk, talk, hear, operate a computer keyboard, and speak on the telephone. Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 10 pounds
