Job description

Job Summary: 

The Network Engineer is responsible for implementing, maintaining, and documenting the company’s network infrastructure to ensure high availability, performance, and security.  This role involves configuring and troubleshooting network devices, monitoring network performance, and collaborating with cross-functional teams to support business operations and strategic initiatives. 

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Network Design and Implementation:  Assist in the design, deployment, and management of enterprise-level wired and wireless network solutions, including LAN, WAN, WLAN, and VPN configurations.  Ensure adherence to industry regulations and best practices. 

  1. Network Maintenance:  Perform routine maintenance, upgrades, and patching of network hardware and software to ensure optimal performance and security according to industry and company standard change management procedures. 

  1. Troubleshooting and Support:  Diagnose and resolve complex network issues, providing Tier 2/3 support for network-related incidents and outages. 

  1. Security and Compliance:  Implement and maintain network security measures, including firewalls, intrusion detection systems, and access controls, ensuring compliance with industry standards and regulations (e.g., PCI-DSS) to protect network integrity.  

  1. Performance Monitoring:  Monitor network performance using tools like  Entuity, Netbrain, Meraki, and Strata Cloud Manager, identifying and addressing bottlenecks or anomalies.  

  1. Collaboration:  Work closely with IT teams, vendors, and stakeholders to support infrastructure projects, system integrations, and cloud connectivity.  

  1. Documentation:  Create and maintain comprehensive network documentation, including diagrams, configurations, and standard operating procedures.   

  1. Capacity Planning:  Assess current and future network needs, recommending upgrades or expansions to support business growth. 

  1. Disaster Recovery:  Develop and continuously test network redundancy and disaster recovery plans to ensure business continuity. 

Required Qualifications: 

  1. Education:  Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Network Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, Telecom, or equivalent experience 

  1. Experience: 6-10 years of hands-on experience in large business network engineering with wired and wireless enterprise network environments and software tools (switches, routers, security appliances, network monitoring tools, firewalls, load balancers, etc.) 

  1. Knowledge of cybersecurity and data protection best practices  

  1. Hands-on experience with network troubleshooting and diagnostics 

  1. Willingness to perform occasional after-hours critical support and maintenance, depending on business needs (on-call rotation) 

  1. Strong problem-solving and analytical skills 

  1. Excellent communication and teamwork abilities 

  1. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment 

  1. U.S. Citizen and U.S. Resident  

Preferred Qualifications: 

  1. 5+ years of experience in the oil and gas or energy industry 

  1. Hands-on experience and familiarity  with ITIL processes (Incident/Problem/Change Management) and project management methodologies (PMP, Agile, etc.) 

  1. Cisco Certified Network Administrator (CCNA), Palo Alto Network Security Professional (PNSP), CWNP or similar certifications  

  1. Proficiency in configuring and managing network devices (e.g., Cisco, Juniper, Aruba, or Palo Alto routers, switches, and firewalls). 

  1. Strong knowledge of networking protocols (e.g., TCP/IP, BGP, OSPF, VLAN, MPLS, QoS). 

  1. Experience with cloud networking (e.g., AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and security (F5). 

  1. Familiarity with network monitoring tools and security frameworks. 

  1. Understanding of SDN (Software-Defined Networking) and automation tools (e.g., Ansible, Python scripting, Netbrain). 

  1. Industrial Networking (Modbus, Ethernet/IP, DNP3, etc.) 

  1. Experience with Cisco Meraki/Catalyst Center, Cisco Secure Analytics, Cisco Secure Workload, or Cisco Defense Orchestrator 

  1. Remote field WAN technologies such as Starlink, Cell Modems (Digi, Sierra Wireless, Peplink), and/or microwave radios 

  1. Experience with Linux operating systems (RHEL, Ubuntu, Centos) 

  1. Hands-on experience with Cisco FMC, Cisco ISE,and/or Strata Cloud Manager 

  1. Hands-on experience documenting network diagrams with LucidChart, Visio, and/or NetBox.
