Job description

RMF Engineering, Inc. a national engineering firm, is currently seeking a Mechanical Project Manager/Mechanical Engineer with proven experience designing HVAC, fire protection, and plumbing mechanical systems in the higher education, public safety, municipal and/or healthcare market sectors for our growing Charlotte, NC office.
Position Description:
The Project Manager/Mechanical Engineer will lead and work as part of the Division's design team in all facets of higher education and healthcare building engineering.  The Project Manager/Mechanical Engineer will develop and manage all aspects of complex design projects involving mechanical and electrical systems, including:

  • Lead and grow mechanical design teams.
  • Develop project proposals, project plans, manpower plans, budgets, schedules, negotiate fees, change orders, contracts, and overall QA/QC management. 
  • Provide project managerial guidance and technical directions to team members including mechanical engineers/designers. 
  • Develop and maintain strong client relationships. 
  • Act as a liaison between the client, other design professionals, and the RMF design team. 
  • Develop and maintain correspondence between the RMF design team, the client, and other design professionals.
  • Ensure timely and complete information flow to the appropriate individuals and teams. 
  • Perform advanced engineering calculations.
  • Provide code and design expertise and analysis on complex projects when required within their technical area of expertise. 
  • Ownership for the project and stamp and sign the mechanical drawings as the engineer of record.

The Project Manager/Mechanical Engineer is responsible for tasks including:

  • HVAC systems design.

  • Performance-based Fire Protection systems design.

  • Energy modeling.
  • Lab/Medical gas systems.
  • LEED/Green Globes documentation.

Requirements

  • BS Engineering Degree from accredited college or university
  • Licensed Professional Engineer (PE)
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical buildings design (HVAC, plumbing, fire protection) and project/employee management
  • Strong technical systems design and engineering ability
  • Experience with Revit software
  • Strong technical design and engineering ability
  • Strong work ethic and solid organizational skills
  • Preferred Qualifications:
  • Familiar with IESVE software for building performance simulation
  • Familiar with Microsoft Office software
  • LEED certification or experience in sustainable design
  • Specification writing experience
  • Cost estimating experience
