Position Overview:

As our Senior Manufacturing Technical Advisor, you will analyze technical documents such as drawings, models, and specifications while collaborating with internal teams to develop manufacturing techniques that align with our capabilities, meet customer needs, and support the overall AT vision for manufacturing prototype and First-of-a-kind processes. This role requires a balance of technical expertise and strong communication skills, as you will work closely with various project professionals and play a key role in shaping the machining and manufacturing processes from start to finish. This role is classified as partโ€‘time, with predetermined hours set collaboratively by the selected candidate and management. While the role has preโ€‘set hours, the schedule may expand if required by business operations.

The position will be in Lynchburg, VA at the Advanced Technologies Office.

Your Day to Day as a Sr. Manufacturing Technical Advisor:

  • Analyze drawings, CAD files, and specifications to develop accurate methods and processes needed in manufacturing to expand our capabilities, while helping to reduce overall time, labor, and material costs.
  • Collaborate with engineering, machinists, and purchasing teams to identify the most efficient processes and materials.
  • Assist the Machine Shop Coordinator to assess project feasibility, support make/buy decisions and ensure alignment with shop capabilities.
  • Communicate with project teams to clarify requirements and address technical inquiries.

Required Qualifications:

  • A minimum of an associate degree in a technical field plus twelve (12) years of relevant experience OR a high school diploma / equivalent plus fifteen (15) years of relevant experience is required.
  • Must have strong knowledge and experience with machining (conventional and CNC/CAM), fitting/welding, and assembly processes involving materials such as stainless steel, Al-bronze, nickel alloys, zirconium, etc.
  • Must have strong knowledge and experience with EDM, Plunge EDM, and/or Sinker EDMs
  • Must be proficient in metrology, Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerances (GD&T), and blueprint reading.
  • Must have hands-on experience with SolidWorks 3D modeling software, including PDM, as well as programming tool paths using Mastercam.
  • Must have demonstrated ability in project planning and execution, including developing and improving processes and procedures.
  • Must have general knowledge of project engineering activities, such as task planning and scheduling.
  • Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to deliver clear, concise, and accurate information.
  • Must be a strong team player with the ability to build effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including customers and suppliers.
  • Must have the ability to thrive in a fast-paced team environment while also working independently when required.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) or Department of Defense (DOD) security clearance

 Pay: $41.35 - $65.38

The starting hourly rate for this position in Virginia (US-VA)  at the start of employment is expected to be between $41.35  and $65.38  per hour.  The hourly rate offered is based on local job market factors and other objective business considerations. Subject to these considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, such as a full range of medical, retirement, and/or other benefits. Details of participation in these benefit plans will be provided at such time the selected job candidate receives an offer of employment. If hired, the selected job candidate will be employed 'at-will,โ€™ unless employed at a location and in a position subject to a collective bargaining agreement.  The company further reserves the right to modify the hourly rate (as well as any other discretionary payment, compensation, or benefit program) at any time, including for reasons related to individual performance, company or applicable department/team performance, and other market factors.
