Machine Shop Value Stream Manager

Location: Blacksburg, VA • Report To: Manager, Operations • Work Schedule: Onsite.

Responsibilities
  • Lead the safety, quality, delivery, and cost performance of the Machine Shop Value Stream.
  • Develop and execute strategies to improve productivity, efficiency, and overall operational performance.
  • Drive a culture of continuous improvement through Lean principles and waste elimination.
  • Coach, develop, and support leaders and employees to build a high‑performing team.
  • Manage machine shop resources, budgets, staffing plans, and capital investments.
  • Oversee capacity planning and workflow to ensure production schedules and customer commitments are met.
  • Partner with Engineering, Quality, and Advanced Manufacturing teams to improve manufacturing processes and capabilities.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional stakeholders to align operational priorities with business objectives.
  • Support the modernization and long‑term growth of the machine shop through process and technology advancements.
  • Ensure customer requirements are met while maintaining focus on safety, quality, and operational excellence.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in a technical, engineering, manufacturing, or business discipline.
  • 7 years of progressive experience in manufacturing, operations, or a technical environment.
  • 7 years of direct supervision/leadership experience.
  • Strong knowledge of machine shop operations, machining processes, and manufacturing best practices.
  • Experience leading Lean Manufacturing, continuous improvement, Kaizen, and waste reduction initiatives.
  • Proven ability to lead teams, drive change, and achieve operational results in a fast‑paced environment.
  • Experience with capacity planning, resource management, budgeting, and capital investment planning.
  • Strong communication, problem‑solving, and project management skills.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively across Operations, Engineering, Quality, Supply Chain, and other functional teams.
