Lead Our Cutting-Edge Fabrication Facility

We're seeking a dynamic and experienced Fabrication Shop Supervisor to lead one of our state-of-the-art facilities. As a key player in our team, you'll oversee all aspects of shop operations, from resource management to quality control.

Market Experience

Extensive market experience and technical knowledge in Mechanical, Plumbing, Hydronic, and Process piping systems related to skid fabrication, rack fabrication, modular construction assemblies, and offsite manufacturing workflows. Possesses a strong understanding of mission critical/data center projects, Central Utility Plants, Healthcare facilities, Industrial and Process facilities, including Semiconductor and Advanced Manufacturing projects. Proven experience supporting fabrication operations, shop production teams, and prefabrication programs while ensuring quality, productivity, safety, and schedule performance across all phases of fabrication and assembly operations.

Supervisors: Shop Forepersons and Shop Lead Personnel 

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Operations

  • Lead and oversee all hydronics shop staff at the assigned location to ensure standards and productivity are met in an effort to achieve company goals
  • Assist direct reports with Resource management, proper team selection for all fabrication activities, resolution of issues, challenges and obstacles, understanding and execution of QA/QC protocols, implementation of Safety Department's protocols, meeting or exceeding productivity targets and meeting schedule deadlines. 
  • Conduct and/or attend regular department meetings (ie: Superintendent/General Foreperson meetings, shop production meetings)
  • Continuous evaluation of all personnel to ensure performance is at the highest level
  • Assignment of all shop forepersons and lead personnel 
  • Track and evaluate all shop productivity metrics and ensure best practices are applied.
  • Monitor and advise on quality control measures to ensure high-quality output at or above industry standards
  • Manage departmental budgets and financial planning
  • Manage shop labor rates to control costs 
  • Evaluate and advise on new equipment, tooling and automation that gain efficiency, boost productivity or add capabilities of high value.
  • Engage with labor relations representatives to create and foster meaningful, long-term relationships that support company goals
  • Execution strategies and scheduling of fabrication orders
  • Understand and ensure compliance to current local union Collective Bargaining Agreements
  • Ensure proper code practices, project submittals, applicable SOP's and Weld Procedures are followed
  • Mentor shop Forepersons and other key personnel to be elite leaders 
  • As required participate in project kick-off, mid-job and wrap-up meetings
  • Review and track all fabrication orders progress
  • General knowledge of current building and mechanical code
  • Other tasks and duties as assigned by the Director and/or upper management

Strategic Planning

  • Understand and support the strategic plan and corporate vision
  • Continual development and implementation of processes and procedures to achieve high level quality, productivity and efficiency 
  • Identify, assess, and mitigate risks associated with fabrication operations (ie: assemblies, materials, equipment, personnel)
  • Ensure safety measures are up-to-date and communicated effectively to all shop personnel in an effort to mitigate risk and reduce liability

Personnel Management

  • Adhere to and promote company policies
  • Instill a culture of accountability, integrity, ethics, and respect within the department
  • Recruit, promote and retain highly skilled personnel across all shop operations
  • Mentor, train and develop top performing supervisors (succession planning) to meet current and future business needs and to avoid any gaps in strong leadership
  • Ensure proper staffing levels to meet current and future business needs
  • Responsible for all hiring and terminating of union hydronics tradespersons within the assigned location.

Collaboration

  • Create and foster collaborative relationships among leadership teams across varying departments and locations
  • Participate in cross-functional initiatives and projects to meet company growth objectives
  • Work closely with the Director of Construction Operations and field leadership to ensure material is procured as necessary to meet project needs, customer expectations are achieved, material fabrication and project schedules are met, challenges are resolved and labor and material cost are controlled and minimized
  • Collaborate with other shop managers and regional shop managers to share experiences to develop best practices, align processes, and leverage resources
  • Support the safety and field leadership teams to facilitate modified work schedules for injured personnel

Position Requirements: (Skills, Work Experience, Education, Certifications, Licenses, etc.)

  • Strong industry knowledge
  • Excellent leadership skills including honesty, integrity, patience, empathy, and a strong work ethic
  • Effective communicator at all levels of the business
  • Experience and deep understanding of the hydronic trades (pipe fitting, process piping, plumbing) and fabrication practices
  • 15+ years of experience in Construction including 5+ years in hydronic fabrication
  • Experience with the various business and corporate software technologies ACCO currently utilizes MS Office: Word, Excel, Project; Google Workspace: Docs, Gmail, Sheets, Forms;  Others: Adobe, ProCore, Bluebeam, Box
  • Proficient in English.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record
  • Skilled in reading and interpreting plans and specifications
  • Knowledge of local quality, occupational safety and health regulations for construction job sites

Additional Skills/Abilities Preferred, but Not Required:

  • Degree or certification in construction management, engineering, or architecture
  • Experience in remote training software and technologies used within best-in-class organizations
