Human Resources Manager

Build the Systems That Support the People Driving Change

In Our Own Voices, Inc. (IOOV) is an LGBTQ+ led nonprofit organization based in Albany, New York, advancing the health, safety, and liberation of LGBTQ+ people of color across the Capital Region and beyond.

We are a growing, mission-driven organization where our people are at the center of everything we do. We are seeking a Human Resources Manager who is ready to strengthen our internal systems, support our team, and help build a workplace rooted in equity, accountability, and care.

This is more than an HR role. This is an opportunity to shape culture, support staff, and build the infrastructure behind our impact.


About the Role

The Human Resources Manager leads both the strategy and day-to-day operations of HR at IOOV. This role oversees benefits administration, compliance, employee relations, and HR systems while serving as a trusted resource to staff and leadership.

You will play a critical role in ensuring our workplace is organized, compliant, supportive, and people-centered.

This role is ideal for someone who is detail-oriented, solutions-driven, and committed to building strong teams and systems.


What You’ll Lead and Drive

Benefits & Administration

  • Oversee all employee benefits including health insurance, retirement plans, disability, workers’ compensation, and voluntary benefits
  • Manage 401(k) administration including eligibility, enrollments, and contributions
  • Serve as the primary point of contact for employee benefit inquiries
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date benefits records

Onboarding & Employee Experience

  • Lead new hire onboarding and orientation, including benefits enrollment
  • Ensure a smooth, organized, and welcoming onboarding process
  • Maintain personnel files and onboarding documentation

Payroll Coordination & Vendor Management

  • Partner with payroll to ensure accurate deductions and benefits processing
  • Serve as liaison with benefits brokers, vendors, and third-party administrators
  • Manage escalations related to benefits, COBRA, and claims

Leave Administration & Compliance

  • Administer FMLA, ADA, disability, and other leave programs in compliance with regulations
  • Track and manage leave requests and documentation
  • Ensure timely COBRA notifications and compliance

HR Operations & Employee Records

  • Maintain accurate, confidential, and compliant employee records
  • Process employee status changes, separations, and terminations
  • Track and manage PTO balances and usage

Employee Relations & Organizational Support

  • Serve as a trusted resource for staff and leadership
  • Support conflict resolution and promote a positive workplace culture
  • Ensure HR practices align with organizational values and compliance standards


What You Bring

Required

  • Associate’s degree and 2–3 years of human resources experience
  • Strong knowledge of HR operations and employee benefits administration
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills
  • High level of discretion and ability to handle confidential information

Preferred

  • Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or related field
  • Experience in a nonprofit or mission-driven organization
  • Experience with HRIS systems and data management
