Job description

The Senior Learning Consultant-Instructional Design leads the design, development, implementation, and continuous improvement of high-impact learning solutions that enable organizational performance and support Desert Financial Credit Union's strategic objectives. collaborates and consults with key stakeholders, Subject Matter Experts (SME), and Learning and Development (L&D) management on the design, development, implementation and evaluation of learning strategies and projects. They partner closely with business leaders, subject matter experts (SMEs), project teams, and Learning & Development colleagues to create engaging, learner-centered experiences across instructor-led, virtual, digital, AI-enabled, and blended learning environments.

As a senior member of the Learning & Development team, the Sr. Learning Consultant serves as a strategic consultant, leveraging instructional design expertise, emerging technologies, and responsible AI practices to improve learning effectiveness, accelerate development, and increase organizational capability. They establish standards for instructional quality, innovation, learning technologies, and continuous improvement while ensuring all solutions align with business objectives, accessibility standards, compliance requirements, and Desert Financials' AI governance principles.

What you will do here:

Instructional Design & Development

Lead the design, development, and maintenance of instructor-led, virtual instructor-led, eLearning, microlearning, performance support resources, videos, job aids, and blended learning programs using modern instructional design methodologies and AI-assisted development tools to improve efficiency while maintaining instructional quality.

Create engaging, learner-centered experiences that leverage adult learning principles, multimedia design, learning technologies, and AI capabilities to enhance personalization, interactivity, and learner engagement.

Utilize AI responsibly throughout the instructional design lifecycle to support research, content development, storyboarding, assessment creation, multimedia production, and workflow automation while validating all deliverables for instructional accuracy, accessibility, compliance, inclusiveness, and organizational standards.

Design assessments and learning evaluations that measure knowledge acquisition, behavior change, learner engagement, and business impact.

Learning Strategy & Consultation

Serve as a strategic learning consultant by conducting performance and learning needs analyses and recommending learning and non-learning solutions that improve employee performance and business outcomes.

Partner with business leaders to identify opportunities where learning technologies and AI-enabled solutions can improve scalability, personalization, learner engagement, and organizational performance while aligning with business priorities and governance standards.

Translate business requirements into measurable learning objectives and performance outcomes, incorporating innovative instructional strategies and emerging technologies where appropriate.

Project Leadership

Lead multiple complex learning initiatives simultaneously by establishing project plans, managing scope, facilitating stakeholder collaboration, and delivering high-quality learning solutions on time and within project expectations.

Collaborate with cross-functional partners to evaluate and implement innovative learning technologies, including AI-enabled capabilities, that improve development efficiency and learner outcomes.

Evaluation & Continuous Improvement

Measure learning effectiveness through learner analytics, business performance metrics, stakeholder feedback, and evaluation methodologies to continuously improve curriculum and learning experiences.

Stay current with advancements in instructional design, adult learning, artificial intelligence, and learning technologies, recommending and implementing improvements that increase the effectiveness, scalability, and impact of Learning & Development programs.

Team Contribution

Mentor instructional designers and learning professionals by sharing best practices in instructional design, learning technologies, AI-assisted development, and performance consulting.

Establish and maintain instructional design standards, templates, development processes, and quality assurance practices that promote consistency, innovation, responsible AI use, and continuous improvement across the Learning & Development team.

Serve as a thought leader by identifying emerging trends and technologies that strengthen organizational learning capabilities and improve learner experiences.

Perform other job-related duties as assigned.

What you will need:

Bachelors Degree in Instructional Design, Education, Learning Technologies, Organizational Development, Human Resources, Communications, Psychology, or a related field required.

Master's Degree in Instructional Design, Adult Learning, Organizational Development, Industrial/Organizational Psychology, Education, or a related discipline preferred.

7 + years of progressive instructional design experience in a corporate learning environment, with a track record of designing multi-modal learning solutions (instructor-led, virtual, digital, blended), consulting with business leaders, managing complex projects, and applying adult learning principles to evaluate learning effectiveness required.

3+ years experience supporting leadership development, sales, compliance, operational, or technology learning programs — ideally within financial services or another highly regulated industry required.

2+ years experience mentoring instructional designers, leading enterprise learning initiatives, and driving adoption of innovative learning technologies and AI-enabled solutions, along with strong facilitation skills required.

Expert knowledge of adult learning, instructional design, learning experience design, and performance improvement, with the ability to leverage AI-enabled tools to create effective, engaging, and compliant learning solutions required.

Advanced proficiency with instructional design technologies, learning management systems, multimedia development tools, Microsoft 365, and generative AI platforms to enhance learning design, content development, and workflow efficiency required.

Exceptional written, verbal, visual, facilitation, and presentation skills with the ability to translate complex information into clear, engaging learning experiences and communicate effectively with diverse stakeholders required.

Strong consulting, relationship-building, and stakeholder management skills with the ability to influence decision-making and identify innovative learning and AI-enabled solutions that drive business performance required.

Excellent project management and organizational skills with the ability to lead multiple complex initiatives, manage competing priorities, and deliver high-quality learning solutions on time required.

Demonstrated strategic thinking, innovation, continuous learning, and the ability to mentor others while championing instructional excellence, responsible AI adoption, and continuous improvement across Learning & Development required.

Instructional Design Certification preferred.

Training Specialist Certification preferred.
