Position Summary

The Learning & Development (L&D) Manager - Operations is responsible for designing, developing, implementing, and administering comprehensive training and development programs across the exempt and non-exempt workforce within North American Contract Logistics. This role ensures non-exempt teams are equipped with the skills, knowledge, and certifications required to safely, efficiently, and consistently execute core distribution center functions. While also ensuring exempt leaders are effectively onboarded, developed, and positioned for career progression.ย 

Travel: Frequent travel across the distribution network (25-50%)

Reporting to the Director, Center of Excellence, this role serves as a critical enabler of operational excellence by creating scalable, standardized learning solutions that drive performance, compliance, and continuous improvement across all facilities.


Key Responsibilities

Training Strategy & Program Development

  • Design and execute a network-wide learning strategy aligned with operational standards, productivity targets, safety requirements, and customer expectations.
  • Develop structured training roadmaps for all operations roles, including hourly associates, team leads, supervisors, and managers.
  • Identify capability gaps through performance metrics, audits, incident trends, and leadership input.
  • Partner with the Center of Excellence and Operations leaders to align training programs with standard work, best practices, and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Support network Launch activities through training processes, standards, and human capital.

Content Design & Delivery

  • Create and maintain standardized training content, including:
    • SOP- and standard work-based training modules
    • Instructor-led and train-the-trainer programs
    • E-learning and blended learning solutions
    • Job instruction breakdowns, work instructions, and visual aids
    • Milestone-based career development activities
  • Ensure all content reflects best practices in:
    • Warehouse operations (receiving, putaway, picking, packing, shipping)
    • Inventory accuracy and cycle counting
    • Material handling equipment and automation
    • Safety, OSHA compliance, and quality standards
    • Continuous improvement best practices
  • Collaborate with operational subject matter experts to ensure content is practical, current, and scalable.

Training Administration & Governance

  • Own administration of the Learning Management System (LMS), including course assignment, completion tracking, reporting, and compliance visibility.
  • Establish consistent onboarding, certification, recertification, and refresher training processes across the network.
  • Maintain training documentation, version control, and audit readiness in partnership with Safety, Quality, and HR teams.
  • Support customer, regulatory, and internal audits related to training and competency.

Network Deployment & Support

  • Partner with site leaders to deploy training programs while balancing operational demands.
  • Coach supervisors and site trainers on facilitation skills and adult learning methodologies.
  • Support new customer launches, site start-ups, expansions, and process changes with tailored training plans and on-site resource planning.
  • Conduct site visits to assess training effectiveness and reinforce standards.

Measurement & Continuous Improvement

  • Define and track training effectiveness metrics, including time-to-productivity, safety outcomes, quality performance, and engagement.
  • Use data-driven insights to continuously refine training programs and delivery methods.
  • Benchmark industry best practices and incorporate innovation into the learning roadmap.

  • Training completion and certification compliance

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Education, Human Resources, Business, Supply Chain, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
  • 5-8+ years of Learning & Development experience in warehousing, distribution, manufacturing, or similar operational environments
  • Demonstrated experience designing and implementing end-to-end training programs
  • Strong understanding of warehouse operations and frontline execution
  • Experience administering and managing an LMS
  • Ability to influence and lead through collaboration rather than authority
  • Willingness to travel across a multi-site distribution network

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working in a Center of Excellence or shared services model
  • Background in lean, continuous improvement, or operational excellence methodologies
  • Experience supporting WMS implementations, automation, or operational transformation
  • Safety or quality training expertise
  • Instructional design or adult learning certification

For this position, the expected base pay range is $133,000.00 - $160,000.00 Annual. Actual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors such as relevant experience, skills, education, certifications, and geographic location, in accordance with applicable laws and company policy.ย
