Job Title: Electrical Engineer - Medical Devices Pay Rate: $50-60/hr Duration: 24-month contract Location: Cincinnati, OH Zip Code: 45242 Start Date: Right Away Keywords: #ElectricalEngineerJobs Summary: We are seeking an experienced Electrical / Embedded Hardware Engineer with 5+ years of hands-on experience in medical device product development, embedded hardware engineering, electrical design support, verification, and validation. The selected candidate will support J&J"s New Product Development (NPD) initiatives for energy-based medical devices and surgical device platforms, working closely with Mechanical Product Validation Engineering and cross-functional product development teams. The role requires strong technical depth in PCBA design support, embedded electrical systems, board bring-up, test method development, automated test execution, troubleshooting, and regulated product documentation. The engineer will contribute to design verification, validation readiness, root cause investigation, vendor coordination, and design control deliverables in a high-quality, regulated medical device environment. Required Qualifications: * Bachelor"s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related engineering discipline. * Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in electrical engineering, embedded hardware engineering, medical device hardware development, or electromechanical product development. * Hands-on experience supporting NPD, design verification, product validation, prototype builds, engineering testing, and design transfer activities. * Strong experience with PCBA design support, schematic review, board bring-up, component selection, debugging, troubleshooting, and failure analysis. * Working knowledge of analog circuits, digital circuits, power electronics, embedded controllers, signal conditioning, sensors, actuators, motors, and board-level communication interfaces. * Experience developing and executing test protocols, test methods, test fixtures, automated test setups, and verification / validation reports. * Ability to analyze electrical and electromechanical failures, perform root cause analysis, summarize results, and recommend corrective design actions. * Experience collaborating with mechanical, firmware, systems, quality, regulatory, manufacturing, supplier, and external vendor teams. * Familiarity with regulated medical device development, design controls, risk management inputs, traceability, verification evidence, and quality system documentation. * Proficiency with electrical lab equipment, including oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, multimeters, power supplies, function generators, data acquisition systems, and electrical safety test equipment. * Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to prepare clear engineering documentation, test summaries, issue logs, and technical recommendations. * Must be able to work 100% onsite at customer location in Cincinnati Preferred Qualifications: * Master"s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related discipline. * Prior experience supporting surgical instruments, energy devices, electrosurgical systems, robotic-assisted surgical platforms, or other complex electromechanical medical devices. * Experience with rigid-flex PCBAs, flex PCBAs, miniaturized electronics, embedded hardware packaging, and electromechanical integration in constrained product architectures. * Experience integrating motors, actuators, sensors, power electronics, RF/BLE modules, and embedded control systems into surgical or energy-based medical device platforms. * Experience with communication protocols such as Bluetooth, SPI, I2C, USB, UART, USART, CAN, or related embedded interfaces. * Proficiency using Cadence, Altium, OrCAD, or similar electrical design tools for schematic review, PCB layout collaboration, design analysis, and troubleshooting. * Knowledge of electromagnetic compatibility, electromagnetic immunity, electrically fast transients, electrostatic discharge, grounding, shielding, and signal integrity design considerations. * Experience supporting compliance activities related to IEC 60601-1, IEC 60601-1-2, IEC 60601-2-2, or applicable electrical safety and performance standards for medical devices. * Experience with design for test, design for manufacturability, design for assembly, tolerance analysis, supplier engagement, and manufacturing readiness activities. * Programming or scripting experience using C, C++, Python, LabVIEW, MATLAB, or similar tools for embedded testing, automation, data analysis, or hardware validation. * Experience working with design control deliverables, risk files, requirements traceability, verification matrices, validation protocols, engineering change documentation, and regulated product release processes.
