As Microbiology Manager at our market laboratory, youโ€™ll define and own this new role in our modern, spacious facility equipped with state-of-the-art equipment and instruments. Not connected to a hospital, this is a large lab with 24/7 operations, where youโ€™ll work at the top of your certification on a broad spectrum of patient cases. Our Microbiologists use the most advanced technologies to deliver critical results across HCA Healthcareโ€™s network of 190 hospitals and 2,400+ sites of care in 20 states.

What you will do in this role:

  • Manages day-to-day laboratory technical and non-technical resources and operations to meet organizational and regulatory requirements.
  • Develops and implements programs for staff hiring, orientation, competency, and ongoing training. Provides ongoing performance feedback to staff through coaching, performance review, and counseling to ensure staff performance expectations are met.
  • Reviews and analyzes section activities and data to improve operations and utilization of services.
  • Monitors department resource utilization, identifies and addresses variances to meet service and fiscal goals.
  • Assures compliance with standards set forth by accrediting agencies: CAP, JCAHO, CLIA, FDA and CMS. Develops and implements policies and procedures and verifies annual review of all policies and procedures.
  • Oversees quality control/assurance programs related to test methodology, protocols, equipment, and supplies. Actively participates in Continuous Quality Improvement.
  • Ensures that staff receive information by developing and implementing a communication plan

What Qualifications you will need:

  • Baccalaureate Degree in Medical Technology, Biomedical Science, Biology or Chemistry required, Masterโ€™s Degree preferred.
  • National Certification as a Medical Technologist required,
  • State licenses where required (CA, FL, LA, NV, NY, TN,)
  • 3-5 years of Microbiology Supervisory level experience required.
  • Experience in a high-volume hospital or central laboratory setting preferred.
  • Thorough knowledge of laboratory methods using independent judgement to demonstrate knowledge of microbiology and infectious disease processes with correlation of disease states and test results.
  • Thorough knowledge of laboratory accreditation and regulatory compliance requirements
  • Thorough knowledge of laboratory billing guidelines
  • Excellent communication skills. Effectively presents ideas and concepts to groups in a concise manner.
  • Effective team building and organizational skills.
  • Ability to supervise, teach, coach, and motivate staff.
  • Effective problem solving and decision-making skills. Knows when to seek guidance and escalate to leadership.
